Horizons Speed and Distance and Time

Traveled quite a way away from the Res looking for targets, turned back and while watching the distance close to the Res Zone Point I thought I would Boost to close the distance.
At normal running (in my normal Python, do not do engineers) the top speed is 265m/s and the distance traveled is approx 1 Km every 4 seconds.
Now i would have thought that boosting to 346m/s would reduce the time, which it does, and reduce the distance, but, for every forty seconds of time counting down while i am boosting I am only traveling up to 2 Km instead of, I would say the 8 or 9 Km (as boosting is an instantaneous speed increase that immediately drops away).
I never noticed this before, but this Res is particularly quiet at the moment.
It would be nice I think if FDev could look at this mechanic of travel to try and see if it can be made to act more as normal. Increased speed covers more distance in a shorter time period, in a nutshell.
Also when flying low over the surface of a planet you do not get the sense of speed you might expect, maybe this could be looked at as well.

This is most certainly a facet of the scale of the game. If you're flying 12km above the ground, the terrain will seem to creep by. Think about flying in a airplane. After you get up to 30,000 feet, the ground almost looks like it's not moving at all. At least at a glance.
As far as the mechanics of space flight in Elite Dangerous, and feeling like there's something wrong with it. Maybe you're too used to games like Star Fox?
