Spending money ?

A very kind and very wealthy commander gifted me a fleet carrier, that was amazing and now combined with FDEV updates and new ships the game is like a second coming for me.
Interesting. Although I could do that, I’m not sure if I would. I believe that in a sandbox game, (with no “winning endgame) there is value and a sense of accomplishment in working for what you want to accomplish. Just my opinion. I would definitely consider doing something similar for someone who has a compromised ability to play the game. What I like to do is team up with folks to either help them achieve a goal or mostly to teach/show/help them to do what they are struggling with. This way, they can continue on their ED journey with occasional help getting through rough patches.

Lucky you!

I could do with a couple of bill on my FC to keep it running whilst I build out my first system….

CGs are a good source of "gold rush" credits.
The evacuate civvies during the Sol thargoid attack, at the end of 2024, netted me just under 9 billion and the latest mining CG just under 1 billion.
Stacked pirate missions are also a good way to get lots of credits fast.

I know but my time online is linited

In ten years I’ve not accumulated even one billion credits, because I make a lot of political donations to various factions (usually Federal, but some independents as well) . Play sessions often end up costing me credits rather than earning them. Luckily I’ve only got one ship to fund, and no fleet carrier.

I'm still hoping that one day I could pay some serious cash to get a colony ship out beyond the 15ly limit.

Isn't it 25 million for a claim? Could be a fixed 10m plus 1m per lightyear. So 20,000 lightyears out in the black could cost 20 billion.
I really like this idea. You’re basically paying the brewer megaship to make additional jumps. There could also be a time delay built in.

I suspect that FDev has a specific reason for not doing that, though. And I suspect it’s the same reason you can’t colonize from colonia and other places. I think it has to do with power play.

I mean, once upon a time you spent money on repairs and fuel, and failure was measured by your inability to make ends meet, not if you for blown up.

But people didn't like having to spend money like that... and here we are today.
In the early Elite days, it was also cheaper to self-destruct and pay the rebuy cost than paying for the repairs for a damaged ship. I remember refueling the Anaconda cost disproportionately many credits compared to the price of hydrogen fuel. Both of these were adjusted afterwards.

Sounds like rebuy should've been reduced 🤷‍♀️

Like other things, the antithesis of allowing people to buy their way for (easily earned) credits when there is a game to be played. It will just benefit those with more credits.
Even with those proposed figures, there are people who can buy a system on the far side of The Abyss on day 1. Sure, they'd need to spend the next <4 weeks doing ~45 hours of carrier jumps and tritium transfers to get the founding materials there, with maybe 6 or 7 supporting carriers loaded with tritium to make the trip (abandoning/decommissioning as they empty along the way,) but it wouldn't be impossible.

There is a lot of history in Colonia from player led factions and use of BGS. Who knows, maybe the area will manifest a power of its own one day, but it is probably for the best it remains more anarchic.

Take a look at what has been done in a few months to support Distant Worlds III in Orion; It just needs a committed and well-organised team. There are already many colonised systems some 1500LY out from Sol towards SagA/Colonia. Even assuming stopping to build out some supporting infrastructure every 500LY, it isn't going to take decades.

I would love to see a chart that had total asset credits on the Y axis and commanders on the X axis. How much do you think the richest player has? 500 billion?

I agree with most of your post but what if they just calibrated it so that only the richest player could immediately create a colony in beagle point? Wouldn’t that be sufficient? That initial cost plus the cost of delivering the commodities?

Players would still create bridges but it’d be a lot more work …which I think a lot of them would enjoy

Not definitive as it requires signing up to Inara, but the Cmdr that is recorded as having done the most mining in the game, by a long way, has over 3 trillion credits in the bank.

If FDev scaled everything relative to them, then we'd all be very grateful to be able to get our 15 ly back!

Indeed. All the initial discussion about expansions rates being too slow was based on a reasonable confusion from the initial descriptions of the stations being completed, that it would take a minimum of one week to expand out from a system. That's true for the station model, but not the services on it, which allow for onward expansion immediately on completion.
