Spire Sites still worth visiting?

Just curious ... one bit of the war I missed out on was exploring the Spire Sites. Is it still worth doing this now that the last titan has been destroyed? If so, is there a recommended site to visit for the best experience?

Thanks,
LP

Yes, Spire Sites still cool to visit, and you can do some credits gathering exo-bio samples specific to every site, with a nice discover bonus (old bug, all sites value as 1st discover).

here a list of Spires with useful info: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zetAjIi8dPcbt7j3KK30vUsIx_vuyxDatq3_P8Kg-Co/edit?gid=0#gid=0

you can visit some planet tidal lock with a Spire in dark side, for the "spooky" vision.

Still some mats there to collect, but not big use at the moment.
What materials do you mean? I visited the spire site on HIP 19870 3 b just last weekend, but i was unable to collect anything. Maybe a Scarab SRV would be needed for that? I also collected samples of all eight biological species on that body, but did not get the 1st discover bonus, which is expected when someone else is already marked as the first to sample them.

Yes, fire at "forest" of coral tree/root and pods (you can target) by SRV or Flak/Missiles from ship.

Not bio species of the planet but the Xeno-Bio samples from the top of central spire (land on petal pads) or at ground level on "trees" or under the branacles structures.

last but not least, remember to scan from ships the structures for Xeno Codex entry, coral tree, coral root, and variants major, minor, primary spires, etc...

Ok, so I have to go with a bigger ship next time, which has an SRV bay. I went with my Cobra Mk V, which is a very practical ship for collecting space-based materials and for exobiology.

I landed on a petal pad on the largest spire, and proceeded on foot to the wall of the spire, and jumped a bit downwards using several giant steps in a side wall. I pointed my exobio scanner at everything, but it found nothing to scan in the spire. I also shot at various glowing parts with a pistol, but nothing dropped from them. I also walked under a giant barnacle and tried to scan and shoot the glowing spots there, but I got nothing out of them.

That was part of the "mini game" for sabotage/poisoning the spire, zapping three spots in a given time window to force the opening of central "altar", same on ground to make vulnerable spots to gather refined spire mats, but available only on "active" sites, now all are dormant.

For xeno bio sampling use the scan function searching around upper cicle from the petal pad and on wall accessible for inner part accessible jumping platform to platform.
On ground inside Barnacles and Coral tree/root.

Why was it changed/removed? Seems like very cool fun content imo.

Because it relies on the spire towers being active, which they are not without an active Titan. At least, currently. There might be more developments around the spires in the future, but as the Thargoids are currently effectively on pause, they're sitting there, inert and waiting to be turned back on (probably).

I suppose part of that reason isn't just story, but also gameplay because the way these spires would work prior is, being active at one applied equivalent progress at the respective furthest 10 systems held by a Titan until it reached 85% progression. Which of course cannot happen now, and it's a relatively simplified description as there were some rule changes surrounding the way these worked over time, except for that baseline "applies equivalent progress to 10 furthest systems around a Titan". Evidently, there are no systems for this effect right now.

... and I suppose their effects might not remain similar in whatever the next stage of our punching contest with the (not always) friendly space flowers is. But that's all in the future. Right now, these just make for more of an atmospheric setpiece and a reminder of the war.

I'm sure the Titans are not at all capable of rebuilding themselves even after most of them was destroyed by their fusion reactor going boom.

because is part of 2nd thargoid war longtime event, now completed (at least this chapter) if we can consider "completed" a war without declaration, truce or armistice;
we still thinking from a human point of view, even the meaning of win or lose.

btw, i think FDevs will not throw away all this good content, simply from a game developer point of view and business... in last twitch stream of 2024 they said we haven't seen yet the biggest Thargoid vessel, so i think this content will come back, reused, in small or big scale events.
meanwhile, my suggestion is to discover the lore and visit not only Spires but other sites, thargoid and humans (ex. INRA)
old Goid Surface Site have a couple of nice mini event to trigger and mats to gather, Barnacle Site imho have the best (passive) goid event.

would be nice in future to explore a Thargoid site, "turn a corner" to come face to face with a "on foot" Thargoid survivor, remained stranded and split from the hive during the retreat... surprise!

i certainly hope so , since other than Raxxla searching, heck what else is there for "endgame" besides Thargoids & Guardians?!?!
( i guess maybe also Colonisation soon in 2025? )

Already have CMDR --> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-target-systems.612125/page-326#post-10490113 ... so amazing !!!
but other sites, thargoid and humans (ex. INRA)
ahh ok yeah i'll add that ^ for my To Do List ASAP then thanks!

hmm , unless you mean this--> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-target-systems.612125/page-327#post-10490132 ... i'll have to go research those since i don't believe i've gone to a "Barnacle" site yet?
Apart from anything else the Spire sites are still amazing places to visit just for the visuals
Totally agree yep --> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-target-systems.612125/page-327#post-10491608 ... ;)

I would have to say yes!
Even if they are dead, the atmosphere is worth experiencing at least once.
(But my guess is they will be alive again at somepoint in the future....maybe)
Hyades Sector ST-Q b5-5 (Planet 2)
Col 285 Sector KW-M c7-15 (Planet B-3)
....are two of my favourites o7

Cool video, but can you record it with less aliasing and in 4K?
It was recorded on my old system - I suspect my new system would manage it a lot better (Although I could definitely do with a bigger monitor!)
We'll see if the Thargoids return, and I'll add the Spires back to my 'to-do' list 👍
