With squadrons on the horizon I thought I'd raise the issue of player faction/minor faction affiliation. Frontier have said in the roadmap and on the initial subject or squadrons it "might" be possible to align your squadron or fly the flag of a minor faction which makes sense for player groups. A lot of us play background sim and this would be a great feature.
Do we think that as an allied/aligned faction there should be some changes made to the criminal/fighting system in regards to shooting an enemy faction. For example if I am flying the flag of one faction and my faction goes to war or civil war with another should I legally be allowed to shoot my enemies without criminal punishment as long as i'm away from a populated area? I am after all at war or civil war, does the Elite universe have gentlemens rules in this regard. Obviously around stations crime does not apply as there would be civilians and others protected by law and other factions present.
It seems weird that two factions can be at war but only allowed to pew pew in a conflict zone or if a WANTED status is attached to a ship. This would of course create open world PvP situations between player factions and people flying different flags.
I'm interested to know what people think? After all what other benefit or purpose of flying a faction flag would there be? I just find it odd you can have enemies but you're only allowed to blow them up in the designated areas.
