squadron ship decals

I don’t really understand Frontier’s marketing strategy. But what really baffles me is why they don’t allow squadron leaders to upload their own logo, which their members could then buy for Arx. Everyone wants to have their group’s emblem on their ship, so why not make it possible?

Every videogame that allows any user content has a TTD (Time to ****), which represents the delay until a player uploads or creates a picture of a gentleman's sausage. (This has in fact already been done on the galaxy map via visited systems).

Players can only be trusted to do this, never to refrain from it.

One of the reasons might be the need to personally verify every logo to make sure it does not include anything breaking the ToS. It might be more hassle than its worth for FD.

Given that the game (Horizons) is PEGI-7, no, we are not nor can we all be assumed to be adults.
In all these long years, I haven't met anyone that young. The youngest person I've met who plays Elite was 20. I'm 35, and in our squadron, I'm among the youngest.

And besides... Today's kids are much more vulgar, and we older ones could learn from them. :D There is a diference what is correct and what is truth.

Have you noticed how even this conversation was moderated when you used forbidden word? The same applies to the game. Those are Fdev rules, no matter if you personally might not care.
In my opinion the problem is not only with vulgar or obscene childish content, but more importantly with racist, political or otherwise inflammable things that kids actually might not understand but adults will get worked up about.

So it's additional work for them. Hard to say if they would see any benefit.

But you can put this option only for squadrons over some specific count of members. 200 members for example. How many squadrons could be in? 50? Max 100?

I suppose the question FDev would ask is what makes those larger squadrons less prone to sneaking something potentially offensive through. The first step in dealing with any sort of risk is elimination rather than reduction, especially if they see no business case.

I certainly don't want to rubbish this sort of idea though because squadrons in game could do with something.

For a very limited value of Everyone which I suspect is fewer than the actual number of players in squadrons.

Even those of us that are adults cannot be assumed to be responsible.

At one point FDev allowed the PGs involved with "Rise to Power" <maybe?> to put decals in. I have a decal from Adel's Armada, but I am not with them any more. It was pretty cool to group up and have that kind of identifier. If it were done, it should be a generic 'Squadron Decal' that you buy, and it would shift with your alignments changes.

FDev had a review system with the PMG's, but that has ended now. That should be a clue. That decals just might be too much work for the slimmed down ED group.

In-game Logo Application for Squadrons and Players Minor Factions in Elite Dangerous would be a valuable addition, allowing players to fully customize their group's visual identity and creating a greater sense of community within the game. The ability to apply custom logos would enhance immersion, promote player interaction, showcase player creativity, and benefit the game's marketing efforts.
Fixed for you, since the original suggestion is a discrimination against solo players.

It has been requested numerous times, but Frontier seems apathetic to the idea.
Couldn't find this before...
I throw this in every time this comes around. The link above, from 2018, is the first one I found in Google.
My suggestion would be to implement a forum that players could make an initial post for requesting an insignia.

After that, only Volunteer Moderators or other "official" people could comment. Their purpose would be to up or down vote the content edit: in accordance with a set of published rules.

After a number of upvotes, say three, the person making the turnkey vote would lock the thread and submit it to FDev for addition to the store. It then becomes a micro-transaction for sale.
Earlier versions of the the same, including my addressing the blatant discrimination that this thread also includes...

Yeah, no-one sensible is touching that if you've not been able to work it out. I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's a particular symbol that has been associated with people who have done some bad things in the last 90 years.
If you mean the swastika, it is a symbol whose origins date back to the Paleolithic era and was widely used across all continents. The fact that the Nazis appropriated it is another matter. But the symbol itself is perfectly fine.
