If you mean the swastika, it is a symbol whose origins date back to the Paleolithic era and was widely used across all continents. The fact that the Nazis appropriated it is another matter. But the symbol itself is perfectly fine.

It's symbolism is so ingrained in popular culture, no one will take it for it's original bringer of luck meaning. And it's forbidden in germany for example, so FD would have to check and forbid it, or lose the german market.

Its so verboten that game artists dread even accidental swastikas where players come across tiled patterns that form it.

Some games do allow players to make their own group decals.

For example, GTA5.

And amazingly enough, you don't need to pay for it!

The solution is instead to rely on the report function rather than vetting potentially thousands of images, although these days I suppose AI could help with initial checks.

FD simply make it clear, lewd or offensive images that are discovered result in an immediate lifetime ban from the game, no appeal. The onus then is on the immature to restrain themselves.

GTA 5 is PEGI 18 so they don’t have to worry about kids seeing things that are inappropriate, so can rely on the reporting system.

GTA5 does try and limit what you can create, presenting specific fixed shapes to make stuff with, but with creative use you can do some stuff that probably wouldn't fly in ED and there's even a way of making whatever you want and uploading it with some shenanigans IIRC.

FD could try something similar to that, limited/approved shapes so you can customize but only so much.

In all fairness to FDev they're not Rockstar and can't be expected to have the same resources to create and maintain a things in a game to their level.

That's the beauty of the system, by presenting a limited set of shapes to work with and how you can place them, it limits the amount of mischief people can get up to with those shapes.

Take a look at the decals we have available, throw in some extra shapes, limit placement, allow text on logos, but same way text is filtered on our ship names.

It would be basic, but it would prevent most, if not all potential issues with abuse.
