If you wonder what will happen with squadrons just look at multicrew, powerplay, and the rest. How did they go after launch?

multicrew just been expanded to include mining and exploration. So it continue to be developed.

No. Only one CMDR in my squadron... Me, lol! It seems like squadrons can work well when matched with Inara though.
