Squadrons - question about interaction with players in OPEN.

Maybe I have missed something on this in the releases but:

Are squadrons going to be a mechanic to "allow" PvP against players aligned to other Squadrons?

Sort of like Power Play but on a smaller scale.
If a Squadron is set up in "your" system does that mean they now "own" the system and do all non aligned players become targets? :S

There's a Squadron Allegiance tab in the vid for what it's worth.

If that means that squadron members(ships) count as aligned for the purpose of the BGS, then that's something really cool. It will finally allow players to be "part of an NPC faction".

If it's there just for show, and all you get is maybe reputation and better missions from factions (without the individual having to work for it on his own), then boo! we want more.

PS: I just realized that none of this has actually anything to do with direct PvP. Meaning that members of different squadrons in Open probably won't appear hostile on the radar automatically, neither will squadrons be integrated with C&P to somehow prevent bounties.

The squadron feature should facilitate some PVP combat between squadrons for control of systems imo. The point is to improve cooperative and PVP gameplay.

If squadron members can only do certain things in open to influence system control then it would increase PVP opportunities.

Looking forward more to the Squadrons update now - if they can align with NPC factions and be findable that way it would be cool - align with a faction and find similar players.

Also the leaderboard / seasons areas may be fun - or might wreck the BGS!

Not so bothered about the PvP aspects - cue demands for Open Only Squadrons :D

I hoping this. I don't want to be someones legit target just because I didn't buy into the -=[**whatever**]=- "wing of the day".

Frankly? We don't know. It will become evident if the developer decides this is important enough to share before beta, and will become self evident during and after.

Honestly? Go in with an open mind and let's see what this will offer. There is huge potential from a QoL and experience perspective. This is what I am quietly hoping for.

So I am not projecting what I think it should be ahead of time; I'm hoping Frontier will surprise, in a positive way. There is so much potential for improvement here.

I think if you’re actually territorially contesting a system, if there’s a war you should appear as automagically hostile.

I think that, too. Because rigth now, I wouldn't know what to do with Squadrons.

Now, if only the galaxy would have some farming grounds for squadrons to battle for the right to farm adrenaline pumps....

I'm pretty sure that those are going to be Diaguandri, Deciat, Kuk, Laksak and Maia. Oh, and Wyrd.

I hope that's not the case. I'm too old for guild drama, so if the bubble becomes a turf war that requires me to sign up or die, I'll just stop playing in open altogether.

Let's give Frontier a shot at this. We know almost zero. Frontier have already shown they want powerplay to be the turf war it's supposed to be. Squadrons is a wholly different thing as best we know.

On the contrary, I think Frontier want to offer better ways to interact as groups or seek like minded commanders to have good times in space and have that less reliant on wings. That might actually work out to be a very very good thing, to be fair.

Beta soon. We'll see.

Based on the teaser video, it showed squadrons can align with a faction, i would therefore assume that the factions state with other factions would drive who a squadron is at war with.

I would assume also that multiple squadrons could support the same faction - therefore allying themselves with other squadrons - automagically.

I think players have to consider Squadrons as a PMC (Private Military Company) that is driven in its aggression by the faction they adopt.

So the Squadron itself cant just say "we are at war with SDC/AEDC/The Fatherhood", they would say our faction "the Communist Principality of Ur" is at war with "the Democrats of LHS27" - if these have a squadron supporting them, then these 2 squadrons would be at war, if the other faction had no player squadron support , then you would just be fighting NPCs in CZ's

My assumption is that Squadrons cant officially declare war on eachother (although here is no stopping people deciding to attack/kill another squadron for no in game reason) but its more along the BGS "deciding" who is at war with who.

Remember Elite doesnt have players as heroes, they have them as small cogs in small wheels in a massive machine....

Join the beta and find out.
Not particularly appealing to me, but I don’t really care about the BGS, Power Play, Space Politics, or PvP - these are Elite’s least interesting aspects to me. I get that for some these are their only reason to exist, and that’s fine for them, as long as they don’t drag me down to their level. Space is big, no excuse to step all over each other.

only if we can have solo only for explorers?:O

Just really loud squeaky ones that have some sort of need for oil. But I digress. ;)

Also I think the "it must be PVP related" myth being presented as some sort of obvious thing, is entirely at odds with what very much seems to be extending PVE aspects, which is what has been endlessly asked for. You know, more depth? More context? More reasons?

I don't understand that because teaser shows something that appears very PVE related and is far more like creating large wings. The hint is in the name, really.

Beta will surely make that quite clear, to be honest. I am cautiously optimistic.

Of course we need something like that. Now that even CCP acknowledged that wardecs do massive damage to their playerbase, to their income and to the long term survivability of their game, having this in ED becomes absolutely essential... *cough*
