It sounds petty and minor, but given the SRV can hold two cargo, any ship that has one outfitted should be able to carry two extra cargo. Great game, btw. Loving the latest update!

I've always understood that the cargo was kinda strapped on top of the SRV, not carried inside it, so it has to be taken off to fit into the hangar.

The other thing it could be is part of the SRV is compressed or Parts of the SRV stored in the Storage.
There are ways to justify this in both directions, so I suppose it comes down to game balance.
In a large ship an extra 2t offers little benefit, in a small ship it's a significant bonus allowing the player to fit an SRV bay while still retaining some cargo space.
In any ship it allows for whatever two tonnes of flotsam the player picked up in the SRV to be retained. I quite like the dilemma of having to decide what to discard in order to save an occupied escape pod for example.
Overall I think the OP's suggestion would be of more benefit, but there's pros & cons either way.
