Newcomer / Intro SRV boarding ship... what am i doing wrong?

Hi guys,

Very new to the game but loving it so far. Unfortunatley i've hit upon a problem that i cannot resolve despite lots of searching online.

Can anybody tell me from this screenshot what on earth i'm doing wrong to board my ship with the SRV?

The board ship light is lit, yet there are no options to board ship in the panel. In fact there's no options whatsoever.

I have tried dismissing and recalling my ship but still having the same issue. In the end i am having to resort to loading Elite default game so that i am back in my ship, but it's such a clumsy workaround and definatley ruins the immersion. Self destruct in the right hand panel also seems not to work.

You need to click the highlighted scarab which will bring up your list of options in the bottom right where it has the SRV description currently, if you are in the correct position Board Ship will be on the list just below the middle.

Thanks for the replies. Yes i've done but when i click on scarab in left hand panel it goes across to the right but no menu comes up :(

If all else fails - exit to desktop - start Elite Dangerous (not the Horizons option) - you will find yourself in your ship in orbit and the SRV will be in its hangar.

Not very elegant but it is useful if you ever get irretrievably stuck in the SRV.

Yeah it has to be a bug, i can deploy the SRV from that screen no problem at all, just wont show the menus to get back on to ship.

Ok. Try another way: Dismiss your ship. Then recall the ship and try. Sometimes ship is not landed properly on bumpy terrain.

Lol power plant is fine, tried on two ships now, dismissed and recalled ship.. but no menu comes up.

Deployment menu works fine, presumably the board ship comes up in the same way as the deploy does..


Uninstalling and reinstalling atm, to see if that helps..

My last idea: Are you properly aligned under the ship? I mean try to aproach from the rear of the ship and align your front with ship's front. It's possible that "board ship" indicator is lit even if you're not aligned.

If this were the case he would still get the menu. Just that the board ship option would be unavailable.

Have you ever successfully boarded your ship? I cant quite tell but looking like no so just checking, how to suck eggs.

1. Where you normally 'Dismiss Ship' the one above should say 'Proceed to Boarding Point' but greyed out unusable. If no - BUG report it, if yes carry on.
2. Where Mass Lock Indicator light is there is a board ship light, you must be under the hatch and with this light on to board.
3. Its very easy especially at the beginning to see the light and access the menu but keep rolling forward ever so slightly and roll out of the zone, apply handbrake when light is lit then choose menu.
4.. If done as above and just no 'Board Ship' message (correct) or 'Proceed to Boarding Point' (rolled out of the pickup zone) then BUG - report
5. If your ship is docked at a ground station need to request permission to dock at the ground station not your ship as if you were flying in, Left Hand panel request dock. Then find one of the hangars, good luck with that, often around the base of the landing pads near the entrance and exit ramps, drive in and up to the doors if necessary but the zone has got bigger so easier now, 'Board Ship' lights up and then use menu in SRV to Board Ship.

If in doubt take a screenshot of normal SRV menu with 'Dismiss Ship' on it and preferably an exterior of the ship showing where its landed.

Hi guys,

I managed to sort it. Somehow when i was making a custom config for my controls, something got messed up. I've no idea what, but by going back to a default control scheme all works as it should.

Many thanks to the people assisting me on this. Feel a bit silly now, but it is what it is.
