SRV control sensitivity. Few Horizons questions too.

Any chance we can receive a sensitivity slider for our SRV controls for use on low gravity planets? It spins out way too easily as the slightest movement of the analogues appears to cover 80% of the control input. I expect higher gravity planets to have more traction, however.

I also wish to enquire about random locations showing up on the left-hand panel when inside the SRV. Last night 4 locations appeared which indicated sites on another planet within the system about 6000ls away. However, when I took off in my ship these locations were replaced by the standard planet/station arrangement. I could no longer see them or lock them.

I also wish to enquire about a random event where I'd come across a small base full of wanted sentry guards and upon approach I'd received a bounty for trespassing. However, having scanned a data point (building) I'd received new data and 3 strange emails which I couldn't follow up in any way. Sadly the game buzz crashed at this point and now I don't have a clue what that was all about.

It doesn't help that there seems to be a bug kicking me back into my ship above the planet surface reporting that I don't have Horizons - which is immensely frustrating.

Any ideas on the significance of these data scans/emails?

1st: I second that, steering is different now and while I'm pretty much adapted to it by now would I still like some control over it.

2nd: that's mission hints, and yes the fact that they disappear when you switch from SRV to ship is stupid. You literally have to remember the distance, then find the planet that has that distance, and hope it shows up again somehow. This was literally my first impression of them. They can work out better, but the emphasis is on 'can'. Also it is indeed weird that you get a trespassing fine from an appearantly wanted base. Normally they just fine you when they're not wanted, then attack after a few fines, or if wanted attack instead of fining. Fined while wanted seems borked.

3rd: Data materials that you collect via scanning something in the SRV generates a pointless mail for whatever reason. It's nothing more than "you got material x" and some flavor text. Granted that the latter is nice, it is not that you get it while it is technically nothing yet said mails persist until deleted manually suggesting otherwise.

4th: I can imagine but I've never run across that one, but heard about it. Hope that can get fixed : (

For the buggy controls, I use the left and right shoulder buttons... like the ship.. and use driver assist. I can set the throttle anywhere I choose and just steer the thing then. Tried the triggers for throttle but found I was screaming around the place doing donuts and landing on my roof a lot :)

I use drive assist off and have the controls to be similar to driving in battlefield since I've got way too many hours there. Try putting all power into ENG and use the thruster to hover above the small rocks that throw you off. It may spin out on landing sometimes but you can get further and safer. Just don't do it on high g planets. Not fun.

Try using pilot assist and only putting the bar half way. It helps.
Drive Assist makes things actually worse in most cases, imo it's only good for cruise control.

Also I honestly just realized now that I went straight to assuming that this was about steering and re-read it and noticed that it can be interpreted freely for everything : /

And what Mottled said, the power in ENG does affect the driving a LOT, and honestly there's almost no reason to not run constant 1/4/1 unless you engage something and then revert.
Though if you have issues with overthrottling go for 2.5/1/2.5, if the steering is too sensitve, well...

Driving assist doesn't make anything worst. Like all things Elite Dangerous, it's up to the user.

Drive assist in a buggy simply allows him to maintain a speed. One that isn't as sensitive.

I use this...

5km for VERY technical terrain / 10 - 15km for moderate terrain / 20km for flat terrain.

30km is too fast for most conditions unless I really need to run at flanking speed (eg combat) and then its manual control / drive assist off.

I think people have mentioned the Scarab can damage easily, but if I drive to the conditions I find it doesn't get damaged much at all.

Very true... it's not Forza. No prizes for being there fastest :)

Probably depends on the controller, DA with LR2 on the PS3 controller is twitchy as hell and certainly does not improve the control over the SRV, but for cruise control it's great.

It's meter per second, not kilometer per hour. So 35 is 126 km/h. We're actually driving lunar race cars ^_^
ED has here the exact same issue as KSP, the units are for what they are used meaning less : /
But atleast there's ground detail to relate to here, that's totally missing in KSP which makes it way worse there as there are the 30m/s perceived as 30km/h, and then you wonder why you flip from a slight turn and explode like a nuke.
