SRV controls for m/kb players

How do you guys have your SRV controls set up if you're a keyboard/mouse user because i find it to be utterly frustrating. The throttle seems to have a mind of its own - the SRV will stop on its own, have a delayed response, will change speeds - all without me actually moving the throttle from whatever its current position is. Overall it feels like a huge lag on the responsiveness of the SRV since Odyssey, and precise control of the SRV movements is lost. It feels like this wasn't play tested very much. Or am I just doing it wrong?

I use a hotas, but might be able to help on one thing.

There are two modes for the throttle in the settings, that I can't remember the name of (sorry!). One keeps the throttle where you left it, and the other works like a gas pedal, so it will decelerate unless you keep using it.

I can't guarantee this will affect how kbm works in comparison to hotas but I imagine it will be different as an input. Try switching the mode and see if it helps.

I imagine someone will know the name for it who has game access atm, but I hope this helps in any case.

First rule of SRV:
"drive assist" OFF !!!
I don't think it works well with kb/m.

I have no idea what's with that delayed throttle response. It certainly wasn't the case with Horizons, it's Odyssey thing. I don't know whether its a bug, or effect of some change in driving physics or what. I just got used to it after a while, but can't say I like it.

I'm keyboard only and have set the main throttle & steering controls for the SRV set up as:
s : increase speed / forwards
x : decrease speed / reverse
< : turn left
< : turn right.

Crucially flight assist off so that it only goes forwards when you're pressing s.
you can blip the throttle for tighter turns or keep your finger on it for belting across planets.

Correct!

I now have the SRV set up on a game controller, but when using keyboard I had
= for forward
- for reverse
a for turn left
d for turn right

Plus drive assist off

Game controller is the most natural for me with an SRV.
HOTAS for flight
Keyboard/mouse for on-foot

So lots of changing around, but I do feel the three modes require different input methods.

I use the classic WASD for accelerate/decelerate, left/right. Drive assist off, space for handbrake and left shift for boost. Keeps my mouse hand free for using the turret which I toggle with R.

Don't forget the 4 rotation buttons.
Get those integrated and you can achieve amazing things in your Srv and take 0 damage.

Yeah I did this for a bit while I was playing SC, but I decided for Odyssey I was going to go full kb/m for control scheme because it's just so much more comfortable and convenient. But Elite ships are a dream to fly with Hotas. Better than any other space game IMO. So I may eventually switch back. In the meantime the SRV controls that xvtywyz recommended are working great, particularly the Drive Assist Off seems to make a huge difference.
