SRV CQC please!

I love CQC - looking forward to all the flak I am going to get for this unpopular opinion [big grin] - and would love to see some new variations for it.

  1. Planetside fights with SRVs (including new SRV variants)
  2. Mixed battles with SRVs and SLFs
  3. new Arenas (this was announced a long time ago, at the end of the "Horizons" season, IIRC)
  4. Training fights that don't count towards CQC rank progression against bots

What else could improve CQC in your eyes? (hopefully there will be better answers than just "remove it from the game" or "Purge the CQC rank from the HUD menu :D)

I have suggested small upgrade to SRVs with easy implementation, no reply till today.

All (?) we need is just a one new extra key in bindings "align turret to wheels".
That way you could drive and shoot with precise control of turret and wheels,
the same way as another popular mech (center torso to legs) or tank (center dome to tracks) games.

A whole new planetside warfare game mode inside ED, with addition of a single additional key
(it will align turret (weapon) in the same direction as front wheels - HOLD key mode).

I'd settle for being able to shoot targeted things outside turret mode - all the new surface sites are great for mat collecting, but the weapons consistently firing below the target item is getting v.annoying. I suppose I should bug report it ... again.
 
Just remembered one essential update for CQC that I guess will increase the number of players pretty quick: let us queue for matches from within the main game! While performing those endless jumps towards Beagle Point in Distant Worlds expeditions or during extensive mining sessions, having the option to queue for some CQC action to break up the monotony would be most welcome (I speak from experience ;) )!

I say get rid of the power ups first and make the slfs handle like they do in the main game same stats and all and at least a rate the eagle and sidey. As it stands all the ships handle far too terrible for the fast paced mode that cqc is supposed to be. You could even have the slf presets that are in game already when you pick one from outfitting.
 
Another idea would be if we could get additional play modes on top of the already existing "Deathmatch", "Team Deatchmatch" and "Capture the Flag".
Perhaps we could get a mode with two Capital Ships nuking it out and two corresponding teams of players need to take out the opposing capital ships armaments as fast as possible?
 
Like the idea. Suspect that Close Quarters Racing would have gone over better than the PVP version.

Yes! Dedicated SRC or SLF racing would be awesome as a new mode! (The later reminds me of the settings that new Star Wars cartoon, "Star Wars: Resistence")

This ^ should have been the case from day 1. Would be a huge improvement... and CQC is tele-presence isn't it? So no immerrrrrrsion lost.

I love the idea of some racing arenas too, through canyons and such. Maybe use the CQC power up rings as checkpoints. Could even mix things up a bit, have an SRV and SLF race through the same canyon at the same time. Imagine racing your SRV and you see your teammate blast past you above... flying your SRV into opposing team member's ships could be a thing too. xD ah, I'm dreaming again.[yum]

I have no idea how much work is involved, if its loads, then may not be worth it, but, if not too much work then i would love expansions of CQC, including more space maps, SRV combat, mixed mode combat (surface and air) as well as SRV racing, canyon ship racing etc etc etc

there is loads which could be done with the existing game assets

but again, its a matter of time. I have no idea how long this would take... if it was 1 FTE *** for a couple of months then cool... if it would mean delaying other actual main game stuff significantly then not so cool imo.

(*** I believe FD claim 100 FTEs working on elite so taking one off for a few months for CQC just to design content from existing assets should not be too bad imo)
