SRV crashing to desktop during Surface missions

Crashes/Stability

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when disarming a seismic charge
  • Fixed crash that could occur when launching or switching to a fighter
  • Fixed crash that could occur whilst driving an SRV
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when mining in a wing
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when restocking limpets
Before today I have never crashed ( to desktop that is ) in my SRV. Tried a few surface data retrieval type missions today, havent done any of these since before the 23rd patch. In 6 missions I have crashed to desktop 3 times. Every time while inside the surface installation. Won't be wasting time on anymore of these.

Is this the bug that was 'fixed'? or perhaps it was given steroids by mistake?

Edit: I should add that I am posting this here because once again the new issue tracker site won't let me log in. It redirects back to the front page.
Can't post in the Bugs forum, can't log in to report a bug on the 'new issue tracker site' ...........#golfclap

IIRC, there is already an issue about SRVs crashing in relation to combat with skimmers.

Are you getting attacked by skimmers?

I am getting the exact same thing. When I fight skimmers, usually after I've killed one, I get dumped to desktop. I've given up with surface missions until this is fixed

The same thing has happen to me. Very annoying. ED has never crashed like this on me and I have over 15 weeks of game time. I also get the message of target objective detected whenever I enter any system, even if the system isn't the one with the mission.

Since the "PATCH" or "Update", when I take on the skimmer's at various POI's in my SRV, the third one always causes my game to crash. Having to restart every time I come across a POI while gathering materials has caused me to stop doing it.

Aha! No need attack skiimers - game crashs when you attacked BY skimmers.
Lol, yep. Didn't know it was a big issue so I kept trying different things all with the same CTD so figured I'd check forums. Whether I attack skimmers or got shot at by one, game ctd.
Hoping for a fix soon... kinda bums me out since planets are a no-go atm.

This is a very old bug that seems to have been resurrected...3rd skimmer and CTD?... supposedly sorted over a year ago.

Seems they didn't get this fixed in the patch from today.... guess we have to wait.
Not like it's a game disabling bug or anything

As a layman unfamiliar with programming/coding, I can never understand how old bugs return in new updates. I vaguely recall someone once saying that in large design teams some individual coders somehow end up using older code for a specific game function in an update, and that's how old bugs creep back in. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, aren't code versions marked with a date or some other label denoting their currency? How could a competent person make that simple error? Would it not be a simple matter just to update the most recent version? I genuinely don't understand these matters and wonder if someone savvy could explain. Thanks.

Thx for informations, I'm ready for new crashes of the game (I have active srv missions :cautious:).

Unfortunatley, as it was expected (frontier, no comments...).
Especially if this bug looks like an old one....
One good thing (If I can call a ctd bug "good"), is that if it's a power plant destroy mission with med-high security, then the bug works in your favor somewhat. What I mean is, after you destroy the power plant... all the skimmers (sometimes a ship as well) will come after you, and as they begin to fire, game will ctd. When you re-load the game, you will spawn back in your SRV... on the planet... with mission status complete, and alive.
So, I guess if you don't mind re-launching every mission, it's quite an easy way to do these missions.

As I post this, the game will realize this and go "OH RLLY?" ;)

Hm, an interesting point.
But, as I, I have scan mission in high-securety settlement... I have 5 game crashes, and also I make a lot of "go to main menu" reruns/tricks (I didn't want a lot of ships starts to burn me, so I rerun game for spawn lower numbers of ships - one ship, lol).... So It was a litle pain..
