SRV docking at Engineer's base

I've done very little SRV docking except with my ship, so I might be missing something obvious, but for a bit of a lark, while I was at the Dweller's base, I thought I'd deploy my SRV, have a look around and maybe find some minerals. All went fine until, I tried getting back. I requested docking permission and headed for the blip on my radar, but no gate or anything was there, so then I went looking for my ship and eventually got destroyed for blocking the landing pad. :)

Any tips?

Just one - you cannot park SRV at engineer bases, so don't try. ;)

You have to clear the no-fire zone of the base (I think it's 7km?) and then you can recall your ship, board it and land back at the engineer's.

You can, however dock your SRV in regular planetary bases. Just ask for docking clearance like you would in a ship (through contacts) and you will be guided by the little compass to a garage under the landing pad your ship's on. There you can board your SRV.

If I remember correctly, if you don't dismiss your ship, you can get into it the same way you left the station. It's just not as easy to figure out the right spot to drive to.

But that's not true. I've deployed my SRV from an engineer's base and gone prospecting, then returned to my ship. It's the same as any other planetary base in that regard. The last time I did this was shortly after 3.0 dropped. EDIT: Unless you are meaning when your ship is not docked at the base?

Having said this, I've decided to no longer do this as it takes me ages to find my hangar again, and shooting rocks in the no fire zone incurs a fine - so you're best to fly out of that and deploy the SRV where you can shoot with impunity (at least, if your intention is to collect materials).

Then it's been changed in 3.0.
You weren't able to do that, before.

I stand corrected then.

I’m almost sure you can pull into any hangar but you have to request boarding just as you request docking. Position the SRV in the middle of the hangar and you should be clear to board.

Interesting. I'd never actually done it from an engineer's base before, but I arrived in my Chieftain and found myself short on materials that were available on the planet (one of the really common ones; nickel, I think). :) Mind you, the last time I'd deployed an SRV from any base was ages ago.

Yes, same here.

But at the Dweller's base, I requested docking, but just came to a huge circular construction, and although within a few metres of the indicated point, could find no hangar or door, or anything else.

It was pretty cool looking though, if ultimately frustrating.
