SRV Docking

I’ve been away for a long time, spinal op recovery didn’t let me sit for more than a few minutes at a time on my computer chair, but happy to say things have improved to allow me to ease into playing again.

Question: I’ve always found docking my SRV an even bigger pain in the butt than my Surgery, why didn’t Frontier include a Docking Reticule similar to Landing ones ship in order to take away guesswork?

I rarely have trouble, because I drive slowly towards the light, and the moment the "Board Ship" light comes on, I hit Z to toggle drive assist off/on, which also brings the vehicle to an immediate halt.

There is a srv docking indicator, in the right side of the cockpit - when that indication lights up, you are in the perfect position to dock the srv

I always go with lining myself up with the front landing leg in the middle (all of my ships I use for surface landing have one, can’t say if this is true for all) and then stop the instant I can’t see the front of the hatch at the top of my SRV window. This lines me up perfectly to be scooped up by the ship

Edit: Never noticed the indicator before, I’ve just spent the last 2 weeks on an exobiology run too so have been in and out of the SRV a ridiculous amount. Bagged 2.5bn in exobiology (all first footfall), 100m in exploration data and just over a million in codex rewards. Never want beyond 3500ly from Sol either. Stupidly easy money.

What, you mean like this?
No, projected onto the surface. That picture is what we have now.

Here is an image of a stop sign projected onto the floor (surface) at a warehouse.

The red lines are painted (and coming off I might add) but the stop sign itself is projected from a camera above.

Thanks everyone, but all answers still don’t match the simplicity of the Landing Reticule…..left a bit, right a bit…..gotcha!

No guesswork…..

I once spent nearly half an hour trying to get my SRV into the correct position, makes me reluctant to leave the ship and that’s not good….

That's because it's not needed. It really shouldn't take you that long. There's no alignment or precision required, you just need to be in the general spot with the board light on.
Because you don’t need it doesn’t mean that nobody else doesn’t require/would like like one.

What harm does a reticule add to your enjoyment, it takes away guesswork?

There really should be no guesswork at all. Maybe you could post a video so we could see what you're doing. To the rest of us it's like you're saying you need a reticule to punch your own nose.

Possibly the OP hasn't turned the SRV Drive Assist Off.

My experience in Odyssey with Drive Assist On is very frustrating for trying to board the ship. Constantly overshooting, and the SRV wheels often sputtering forward at zero throttle, requiring the handbrake to stay in place.

Turning Drive Assist Off and suddenly lining-up the SRV for boarding the ship becomes easy.
