SRV drop!

Ok, I got this dream, I know but it was really a lot of fun in my dream.

I was flying over some hostile base, altitude around 1000 meters and I handed over the controls to my NPC crewman, "just keep her steady" I said, the crewman responded with get ready to drop on my mark! Focused on the red light, "3,2,1 mark" GREEN LIGHT, pushed the release button and my SRV dropped out off my ship!!

Activate retro burners, I almost shouted to my SRV computer, retro burners activated, the cracking sound of the burners ingolfed my cockpit and the decent was under control.

"You got control" my computer responded. Alrighty then, a few taps on the brake, looking good and touchdown! Now where was that power supply I need to shut down?

:D

Well it was fun in my dream, don't know if it will be for real but here you go.

Cheers

I'd like a drop system for the SRV, I'd be happy with something basic like a reverse of the current hover & collect process.

I think one of the potential issues would be that bases are designed around the landing & deploying part taking time, it may be that what you describe would be really cool, but it might make gaining some materials a little too easy too.

I'm all for it ;)

And to add to that already fine dream--

..You spewed furious lead and missile all the way down, shredding those floaty bad guys until came to rest upon the dusty, barren rock you've just laid waste to...

Yeah, that would be cool.

You've been reading my ideas. :p

(I'd get you links, but my history is missing about 3000 threads.... Lol)

I'd love it too. :)

Been suggesting it since I got Horizons.

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

+1 for the combat drop. I am quite surprised you can't do it already.

Do it from too high, and end up doing a 'Beagle'

You can't sadly, I wished we could drop and also make a retrieve in altitude but I would be happy with a drop feature only :)

*Drops from ship, notes gravity magnitude too late* ooohhh shiiiiit!

Some good ideas there, but no didn't read that post before now :)

:D

Great minds and all then. :)

I also wish our SRV bay was actually a drive-in hangar, like, halo? I think that had it. It's been a while. Lol

Basically like those huge military planes AC-130? Its too early to remember things.

Have a big cargo bay door at the back, and drive on in. Or out. :D

That'd lead to some hilarious moments when racing away from the base you just broke in too.

"Land, you damn ship!"
*Pew brum brum pew pew brum*
"Open the hangar door!"
*Brummmmmm! Crash!*
"I'm in!"

I did do a Felix Baumgartner

I landed back on the moon without any damage. What you need is a kindly friend who will let you ride on the back of their ship into the combat zone.

Here's hoping in the future FDev provides a garage module that does this in a more official way

There was a bug a while back where the ship would spontaneously land in mid-air. You could also deploy the SRV, even while several km above the surface.

Personally, I'd allow the SRV to be deployed at any time.

At least in a gravity well of a planet or moon.
