SRV needs a composition scanner

So yesterday was going around a guardian location, trying to scan the different things to add them to the CODEX, however nothing worked.

It seems I needed to fly around (which can be tricky if you have a big ship) and use the ship's composition scanner to scan terrain features. I'm guessing it will be the same behaviour for other terrain features like gheiseirs and volcanism.

We have an SRV, that we can switch HUD modes as well, why not add the composition scanner there?

I have the same issue, sort of. I set the composition scanner in a fire group but when I try to use it, I get a message that it can't be used in the current mode. I'm not aware of any different modes in the SRV. Am I missing something?

Hi everyone who is having trouble with this!

I too found it weird that I could not scan geological and biological sites (Have to go back and re-scan them) as info on the composition scanner is scarce in-game. The SRV DOES has a Comp. scanner, it also has analysis mode just like you ships. just assign the comp scanner to a firegroup and switch modes and you will be fine!!!

Well mine doesn't work. The composite scanner doesn't even show on the hud. I can take out the repeater and data link scanner from the fire group, leaving just the composite and still nothing. Doesn't matter if it's primary or secondary trigger either. I have tried everything. Works fine from a ship.

Switch to Analysis Mode .. and make sure the comp scanner is aimed right. Most of the time I use it from the turret as the hill you're on is not a great way to aim. The reticule goes a darker blue when you're aimed at something scannable but if you're not aimed at anything, it won't misfire, it just won't work.

I would use it but as i said, it does NOT show on my HUD, so I can not use it, point it or fire it. I do not have one. It is in my fire groups but that is it. I have the repeater and data link scanner but NO composite. I am having to use my ship to scan things.
I have noticed others with the same problem.

Can you upload a vid, you are doing something wrong. :) and as said, make sure you are in the right HUD mode.

Fwiw: same goes for slf.

Sorry Cmdr. I have never tried to upload a video and wouldn't know where to start. I was going to try and put some photos on here but that failed too. The pictures would show;-
1. Fire Groups with Composite scanner selected.
2. HUD (IN ANALYST MODE) where no Composite scanner can be seen
3. Fire button of Composite scanner pressed which then states that 'it can not be used in this mode' (words similar to).
The Composite scanner is powered. If I can scan a ground target with a Conda then I think I am not doing anything wrong. Further to that, I have TWO accounts. The other account, which I have just had a quick look at, shows the SRV HUD with a Composite scanner. It shows it in Red not Blue but that's probably because I had nothing to scan but it least it was on the HUD.
Sadly I can not try a different ship as I'm on DW2 but if my other account works, there is no reason why this one should not. If I am doing something stupi, I can not see what it is.

STOP PRESS
Having gone to my 2nd account where it worked, I have now logged back into this account and low and behold, it IS working. Strange as I logged into my other account 10 minutes early but never deployed the SRV, just noticed the power and thought 'maybe I have it switched off' so went back to this to check but it still wasn't working. Returned to 1st account and deployed SRV and that was ok. Returned to this account and the scanner showed up on the HUD (I still have the photos where it didn't show). I have no idea, maybe there was something in 'Controls' that was wrong and switching sorted it? I have no idea but it's working. Thanks for everyone suggestions.


It#s very intermittent and keeps disappearing. :-(

If it's showing red - your other account - then I think you're in the wrong mode.

SRV has Composition Scanner fitted as standard I think, so best bet might be to follow up on these other people, see if there's a known bug or something?
