Changes to Surface vehicle Scanner
Since I recently took my FC out into the black again and want to take up some serious discoveries, I realised that there was something lacking in the information transfer from ship sensor/probe data to both the vehicle and on foot “radar” display.
When probing a planet all data is displayed on the HUD and persists into the final approach then it’s somehow lost? All this data is somehow not transferred to either the SRV or the Exploration suit, this is a missed opportunity to make the suit stand out from the other two.
I find it strange when mining I can see small fragments up to 3km away or even more, but when I’m on the surface this tech “fails” and no longer displays anything. With ships I can select all kinds op deposits and even select which kind my collectors pick up or leave behind.
How come on foot this is all thrown out the window and we have to eyeball everything we want to find, Bacteria are very hard to spot when driving across ice worlds.
What I would like for the SRV’s:

What I would like for the SRV’s:
- Either a change to the current scanner or a separate vehicle made for planetary discoveries;
- Maybe give this vehicle a probe arm to scan biologicals where surface conditions are to dangerous to disembark;
- Restrict this to be used only under these conditions, otherwise nobody would get out of the SRV;
- Let the scanner import data from the probe of the planet and display these area’s on the vehicles “radar screen”;
- Allow a filter option similar to the probe menu that it show every Biological separate or all at once but with different colors;
- Add an actual heading and range indicator instead of the barcode display we currently have, or actual icons which are explained in a legend;
- Allow us to put waypoints on the surface from orbit to mark hotspots of biologicals or implement a POI system like resource site in planetary belts that give a radius on the surface from where to start our search;
What I would like for the on foot scanner:
- Like the SRV’s but with less range;
- On foot scanner should still be used to identify a usable sample;
- Make it possible to scan multiple samples to a fixed amount but higher as one:
- have already found planets with 4-5 biologicals, in these cases a single sample at a time is not practical to say the least;
- Since you scan the biological and no actual sample is taken, data should not take that much space;
- Would be nice to see a distance travelled from last sample to make it easier to find a useable sample;
- Color code the probe data so it’s easier to land where area’s overlap, using the ALL option;
- Make signal show on the radar, make it so the biggest magnification shows biologicals, and we can use the lower settings to search for other locations and filter the clutter;
- or limit it to a certain range like 2km.
