SRV surviving your demise in CZ?

I was trying to work out what determined your SRV's fate when you get respawned at a ground Combat Zone. Generally when I reappear in the dropship I hear the message saying it has been destroyed, which I have to think is tied in with my own demise, but sometimes it survives the trauma. It makes a useful B&B between fights, so is it random or is there anything I can do to improve it's chances - aside from actually not getting taken out?

When you're in your ship the SRV self destructs when you're a certain distance away, so it's possibly dependent on how far away the dropship is when you respawn in it

Yes, this. It's the distance of the SRV from when you respawn in the dropship. However, I don't know what factors influence the respawn point and what the optimum parking places are. I always end up parking behind one of the three CZ turrets as that seems closest without being in danger.

I discovered, to my amazement, that my srv survived my death at a ground CZ when I decided to quit the game after I respawned in the dropship. After reloading the game, I found myself at a station nearby and since my ship was still over the ground cz planet, and I couldn't recall it for some reason (nobody's at the shipyard office, no option to access the interface to recall) so I took the frontier solutions shuttle back to the same CZ and when I deployed, my SRV was just as I left it

It's distance and time.
IF you are too far from your SRV for a certain time, it will self destruct

So, after dying, if you find yourself placed in a brand newly spawned Vulture getting ready to commence its descent - so at max distance - you are guaranteed to lose your SRV because you will take too long to reach your srv proximity.
However, if you are lucky and you are placed in an already descending Vulture, you will get to keep your SRV
