SRV Wave Scanner Volume : The actual truth of why it is low volumed

If you don't care about the SRV then this will just waste your time :)

(WSV=Wave Scanner Volume)
TL;DR WSV too low,FD fobbing us off,give us choice of how loud it should be.

EDIT : PROOF --->>> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/367651-SRV-Scanner-volume-too-low

Part 1 : How it works
Part 2 : What FD have told us
Part 3 : What should be done

=============
Part 1 :
The WSV should be dependent on a WSV slider(see image below) and we have one !!! yay :)
The problem is the WSV also depends on the Sound Effects Volume(SEV) slider !!!!
The reason this is terrible is because a lot of us turn the SEV down to reduce the engine/booster noises so that we can hear the Scanner.
When we do that we also reduce the Scanner volume :( catch 22 !

=============
Part 2 :
I have on 2 occasions(and others too) asked FD to change this but they keep coming back with "working as intended" , instead of "it would mean too much work to separate the WSV from the SEV slider" .
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/367651-SRV-Scanner-volume-too-low
=============
Part 3 :
FD, why can't we have a louder Scanner Volume ? (if it is working as intended)
Or is it because of the connection between the WSV and SEV ?

Sorry but the low WSV is so stupid as it is beyond belief, after all if they make it louder and any Cmdr doesn't like it loud ,they can turn it down via the slider !!!!
Currently the noise from engines/the ground/boosters totally drown out the scanner, unless you stop.

ty :)

I agree the WSV needs to be louder i have 2 computers in my flat both normaly doing/playing different games & on a hot day i have the Aircon turned on!!

this makes the WSV useless & i have givenup on the sound things make & have to guess things are by the waveform i see on the scanner

Yes i could invest in headphones but i hate useing them more then not hearing things!

The 2 sliders actually used to be independent. They got combined a few releases ago, I think unintentionally, but it’s remained broken ever since, despite many bug reports.

Here Bloody Here OP.

Right FD, the ball is in your park, and please no more working as intended!! I am no programmer, but surely it is just a number in some line of code to raise from say 10 to 50?? If Cmdrs don't want to hear it at fifty, why they have a slider to lower the volume just like the OP said..

Come on FD PURLEEEEESE?

I always stop my car every km or so when driving somewhere new and using maps, instead of turning up the volume.
And even though it really tees off the people behind me, I yell at them "WORKING AS INTENDED, SO SHUT UP!"

I mean... I just use the visual cues from the wave scanner. It’s not that hard to discern between the patterns.

Also, for the record, the sound comes through just fine in VR.

lol just read the bug report

So hes saying that the engine in a car should drown out the music that the driver has playing !
Hmm that would be nice i hate it when ya can hear the trashy music from the car next to you lol

The music literally is the sound of the car driving (well, a car driving) on some cars when you put them in "sport" mode. Considering we're driving on worlds without atmospheres still, these "design" decisions must still be prevalent in 330X. ;)

Agreed, OP.

Even the navigation system in my Mitsubishi Outlander lowers the music volume of the driver-side speaker when it gives me directions to drive over the nearest cliff.

I agree, my hearing isn’t the best, all I hear is the engine an tyres when booting about in the buggy.

I blame live music, but then, it was worth it.

I too would like to have the option to boost the Wave Scanner volume.

I would be happy to do so from the cockpit, rather than the game interface.

A lot of devs don't realise that there is a problem with digital audio only having reduction. - we need sometimes about 9dB off boost.

I totally agree, it should be controlled independently or (and this might be revolutionary) let's have a slider to reduce motor and tyre noise. :)

I'm all for a slider for the scanner's volume, but being able to adjust the volume of the motor and tyres makes no sense. These produce a set amount of noise in-universe which your character has no control over.

At night I put the audio mode on night time, which compresses the audio. I find it a lot easier to hear the wave scanner then. Give it a try.
