Standard Beta = Horizons beta?

I'm a bit confused with the wording on the Frontier Store...

I bought in at the Standard Beta level, I paid $75 for the beta access and the full game. But no life time pass or anything like that.

Does that mean I need to again pay the extra for the Horizons beta access, or is that already included for me with the standard Horizons?

I appreciate any help or clarification!

Standard beta gets you nothing to do with Horizons. If you want Horizons beta access you need to get that, if you're not fussed about having beta access to it then get the standard package.

EH pretty sure if you bought access to beta previously you get beta acces period ofc you might have to buy the standard horizon xpack.

This is what I'm confused about... I saw threads that said if you backed at Premium Beta level, then you get access to the Horizons Beta, no extra charge. But if I backed at Standard Beta..... I don't know. Either I or Frontier have over complicated this.

Nope. Standard beta users have to pay again for beta access for horizons.

Ok, you sound very sure of yourself, so I'm going to take you at your word and buy the beta access package again... lol

Thank you!

That's how it ought to be, but according to the information released so far, it is not the case. If you bought into the public beta, you need to rebuy beta access for Horizons.

One can hope that they'll reconsider and at least give all original backers beta access as long as they buy the expansion - the store already keeps track of what you've bought, so checking for previous beta access and upgrading a regular preorder to a beta preorder if one is found should be trivial, if they want to do it. But of course, that's what it comes down to. If they want to do it. At the moment, it seems they don't.

Just to set your mind at ease:

Regarding beta access for Elite Dangerous: Horizons if you already have Premium Beta access or higher then you will have beta access. Otherwise you need to pre-order it with beta access.

That is a rip off then we were told previously once you bought beta you had beta access to beta for any content down the line. For example I was in beta before game released and if I bought horizons non beta I should be able to get into beta as that is something I purchased before.

If I do not buy horizon I then ofc should not get to beta it.

Seems very scammy to me if your going have to pay to beta each new xpack even if you previously payed for beta. You have to keep in mind these xpacks are not new games..... just xpacks.

FD can kiss it if they think I will pay for the same thing over and over again especially since they haven't held good on their past promises.

Also they need to stop with the premium/standard beta ... beta is beta period.

Well technically nobody ever promised that you would get beta access to expansions, only ED core game, which we have had beta access to on every single update. While I can see your point of view it's a separate expansion. Realistically having been in beta before you should be able to decide if the extra 10 quid is worth it or not simply for a few weeks of early access and the same for each patch.

Included access to future expansion packs and betas was the critical distinguishing feature between premium and standard beta, besides the few months of earlier access.

I mean keep in mind premium beta cost three times as much as standard

Awesome! Yes, there it is in black and white. Thank you good sir!

Except that kind of a rip off and revisionist history. The big thing about PREMIUM beta was it included the lifetime pass, standard was cheaper because it was like premium but no LTP.

I did my research very well before I bought into the game pre release and you could buy alpha premium beta or standard beta, premium was basically the cost of standard and LTP rolled into one package. standard was everything premium beta minus LTP.

Beta access should be given to standard beta people, they should just be required to pay for standard horizons, premium beta should not have to pay at all.

I don't care if they are calling it a "season" it's still an expansion to a game, not a whole new game.

Look even here they note the standard beta and premium beta difference is LTP:

I'm a Premium Beta backer, do I get access Elite Dangerous: Horizons?
Yes! Premium Beta owners also have the Lifetime Expansion Pass by default and can access the Elite Dangerous: Horizons beta as well as the full release when it becomes available.

I have the Standard Beta version of Elite: Dangerous, what do I get?
Elite Dangerous: Horizons is a brand new set of expansions for Elite: Dangerous but is not included in the standard beta package. You can purchase beta access to Elite Dangerous: Horizons on the Frontier Store if you'd like to help us test it!

If you have standard beta but don't buy Horizons then no beta access but if you do you should get beta access just by buying access to Horizions via the stand purchase of it.

So what about Merc edition beta folks?

Mercenary edition was just a pre order of the game if I recall right, not access to beta. Alpha and beta players had the mercenary edition automatically.

If you pre ordered but didn't have beta access the no beta access now unless you pay for it.

...

So people who pre-ordered the original lifetime expansion get beta access to upgrades but people who bought the original standard beta but no upgrades don't. To be honest this does seem a bit unfair (I wouldn't be a beneficiary of this so I'm not saying this for my own self advancement, should there be any doubt). I agree that standard beta buyers shouldn't just be given access to the expansion betas but if they buy the standard expansion then it would be reasonable to package the standard beta for that expansion in there.
.
Entirely up to FD though, I suspect that they have done some number crunching on the numbers of beta testers they need and this has driven the access requirements.
