Standard explorer landmarks

What are the standard landmarks for an aspiring explorer / long distance traveller to tick off, both for old school and Horizons enhanced ships?

Jacques Station, Colonia
Great Annihilator
Sagittarius A*
Beagle Point (Macedonica's Leap, VonRictofen's Rescue)
Ishum's Reach
... ?

I'd recommend around Barnard's Loop; it's very 'touristy', but there's a very high concentration of nebulae there so it looks great. Heart and Soul nebulae as well, quite a bit further out. Maybe NGC 7822, a bright cluster visible from some distance away, which is kinda between the two.

I'd say that The thing to visit would be Sagittarius A*, because it's the most unique object in the galaxy. There's only one supermassive black hole.
Other than that, it's also worth going to the galactic edge somewhere, and the galactic roof / cellar (as far above / below the core you can go) too. Since these aren't specific systems, but areas instead, you can actually explore for undiscovered stuff at these.

As for already-discovered stuff, there are quite a lot of destinations to see if you want to do some sightseeing. There are tourist beacons in-game, and if you don't want to look for the missions, here is a list. Beyond those, the Galactic Mapping Project can give you an even better list of things to see.

My map (link in sig) has a bunch of deep-space POI, focusing on stuff that's unusual in the Forge. I'm always keen to learn about and find new Forge oddities.

On a "standard" list I'd say be sure to visit the corridor of stations that go out to Colonia. Heart & Soul nebulae are a must, and also S171 / NGC 7822.

VY Canis Majoris is popular.
