Standard protection setup for Anaconda in Open Play? -Asking for open play Anaconda owners input.

I honestly think the A7 for a trade ship are excessive overkill. A6 ya, fine. You get 1300+mjs of shield strength. My video, that is what I was running vs 4 combat pirates. 4A is enough to get away from 1 or 2 pirates fairly easily. Still almost pushing 1000mjs, If your concerned slap on A4 shield cell booster, screw it slap on 2 cell boosters. You will still have 420 tonnes of cargo. If you are trading in areas that are heavily populated with wings of pirates my CG Trade Conda would better suit you.

BTW. I have not been killed in either version of my Conda's. I just switch between which ones I am using depending on what I am doing. I mostly trade A-B routes in backwater systems where I almost never even see another CMDR. When I go to CG's I move up to the A6 with the 2 4A shield cell banks and a bigger power plant to power it all. 372 tonnes is still respectable.

The key to surviving any interdiction is knowing the proper way to flee the situation.

I am refitting shields on my bigger ships now with this great discount, and was wondering how high I should go on the Anaconda.
Conclusion is leaning towards going for the top A7 and accept the compromising 340t of cargo space in a trade outfit.

This has motivated me to sort my fit as well, personally I'm leaning more towards 1225 MJ w/ 404 tonnes vs 1428 MJ w/ 340 tonnes.

Yes, you are absolutely correct.

What system is Townsend Hub in?

My Anaconda has an A7 shield gen with 8 A grade boosters. I've never been seriously troubled by other players in this. In fact I've been attacked only once in it. At a CZ in open one of my minigun turrets apparently took out a ship that an Imperial Clipper had been trying to kill. I got called a "kill stealer" and several other words we're not allowed to use on this forum.

I told him to talk to the turrets. He proceeded to attack me.

Op if you have this much shielding other players can't really seriously threaten you. Submit to interdictions and then warp away while boosting if they try, unless its a wing of vultures or something they can't drop your shields before you've charged your frameshift drive.

Even if it were a wing of Vultures you can easily get away. Have lost count of the full wing interdictions I've submitted to and escaped with B6 and 5 A boosters...

It's a beast!

Draxxen...whichever choice you choose in shields just remember to not go over the 1350 ton limit of the A6 shield or you will need the A7 shield then instead, which has a weight startup at around 1040 or 1060 tons it is I think.
I currently use the A6 with 3A boosters at 404 tons and am happy killing every NPC, but I do not take it into fights in Open and if I did I would certainly swap over to a A7 shield and maybe even 2 A6 shield boosters like in my Python.
I can run my trade conda at 1350 tons with top of the line A spec thrusters, FSD, power distro, A6 shield, full weapon compliment and then I need to D spec the life support and sensors too, oh and I have to switch to a 16 ton fuel tank to come in under the A6 shields maximum limit of 1350 tons, otherwise with the full A spec module setup and full up on cargo you will go overweight by about 62 to 64 tons Draxxen....hope this all helps out chap.

Uh. Cargo weight doesn't affect shields. I run A4 with 452 tons of cargo and shields work perfectly.

All ships have a mass, if you exceed the mass that the shield is designed for then the shield will not be as effective as it could be, which is why all shields have a recommended mass rating for appropriate ships.
Yes you run an undersized shield, yes it may protect you from a few scrapes and the odd laser blast, is it the correct size shield for that ship....no...is it working aswell on the conda as it would on a small ship...no.

Yes, but cargo weight is not counted towards that weight/mass. I have rammed my conda with A4 shields head on into the station at 130 kph and not even dropped my first ring of shields. For trading it is more than adequate. Of course there are better shields, but again, cargo weight does not count, only module weight. So no need to reduce your fuel tank. Anyways, if you are happy I'm happy, but thought you might want to know how it actually works.

You guys are fundamentally wrong. I used to think this before too but the devs verified, opt mass and max mass are strictly based on the HULL of the ship and nothing else what so ever. The hull mass of the Conda is 400. The class 4 opt is 285 max 713. As stated before this has been verified by the devs. You could add 8000T to your ship but your hull mass is still only 400 so the shields would still work. The shields protect the hull of the ship and the hull only has a mass of 400 and there is nothing you can do you increase the mass of your ships hull.

Edit: This is why the T9 A6 shields are so much less effective on that ship as they are on the Conda. Conda with 4 A rated boosters get 919.33 MJS of strength. Same exact load out on T9 is only 395.73mjs. This is because the HULL of the T9 is 2.5 times bigger which equals nearly 2.5 times less protection.

The important stat you should be looking at with shields is MJS of strength. That is all that matters.
