General / Off-Topic Star Citizen Live Steam inc. Dog Fight Module

I will leave this thread on it's own for a while to give you folks a chance to check out SC DFM, but after a bit I will merge it into the main SC thread.

Thanks for the links! The damage model is nice, agreed. I'm not sold on the actual dogfighting bit though, looks as though it needs a bit of polish yet. Still, early days yet.

I've seen it.
Don't know what to think about it, maybe they should have waited a bit more to show it off.
That was a lag/bug fest.
Also, the view seems to be too cluttered for my taste.
Spacescape on the other hand, looked beautiful.

Maybe it's just me, but the in-flight "feeling" seemed a bit linear. There was no smoothness to starting a roll/pitch etc and coming to a stop, it just seemed very binary... maybe that's how they had it set up, but it didn't seem as fluid and realistic as ED :/

Damage model is lovely but still not as nice as the shields taking fire..

Nice all the same... could be an amazing game.

I actually think this is an interesting example of how the different organisations work. Frontier have clearly been plotting this game out round the lunch table for years, so from day one everyone shared the aesthetic they're going for. On the other hand, Cloud Imperium Games was formed specifically to make SC and has grown massively due to all the crowd money, so presumably a lot of the early work was by people just doing what they were told without a strong understanding of the big picture.

Hopefully the delay to the DFM will give them time to work on those details, and to come back with something that really communicates the meatiness of those awesome-looking ships.

My first thought when I saw the damage model was that's awesome.

My second thought was, finally, it's about time space sims caught up with what WWII fight sims have had for donkeys years :p

Well I decided to go and look around RSI and see what I pledged etc...

And I decided to download the hanger... which is ongoing..

It looks like we will be spoiled for good Space sims..

This is what has put me off SC from the start. Perhaps it will change as the game develops? The ship points where the mouse points with no lag so there is no sense of moving a large mass.

I do hope they change this as I would like to play it one day.

Absolutely nothing against SC - I genuinely hope they end up with a great game, but I really do prefer the look and feel of the Elite alpha over the DFM.

I know they're both work in progress, but the DFM seemed rather cluttered and arcadey. Didn't really like the soft-toned space visuals too much either.

I like others want SC to do well (hell I've also backed it), the guys there a clearly excited by their product. That said though, I think I've been spoilt too much by ED's alpha. :p

is there any way of getting rid of the audio quality disclaimer that covers nearly half the screen? bit pointless watching it with that there as i cant see much

Yes: hover your mouse pointer over the top right corner of the disclaimer box, and click the little "x" in a tiny black circle.

Damage does look good

I have pledged for both and I agree that the damage does look good, but I am also not convinced about the dogfighting. Have to say that in my opinion ED looks a lot better!

Remember that this is early days for those guys and they haven't even released this to their backers either. If they were happy with it themselves they probably would have so it speaks volumes that they have not.

Hopefully they will be allowing their users to upload to YouTube and stream so we can all take a look.

Yes all they need to do is finish off the initial flight model, get everything PBR'd, sort out the cockpit instrumentation and completely re-design their network multiplayer engine.

Quite straightforward really.

:D
