Star Citizen Stealing Aesthetic Designs from Frontier?

Look at this video.

Tell me this new ship in Star Citizen doesn't look anything in design like the Imperial ships in Elite Dangerous (and by this, I mean more the interior - watch video).

What i found noteworthy was that many SC ships were incredibly small on the inside meaning walking about was a pretty cramped, buggy and glitchy affair. Whereas this one is much bigger and easier to walk about in. When people say "Elite's cockpits are too big" there's a good reason for this ;)

Star Citizen borrows everything from everyone. I think the people who have bought into it are simply used to it and don't blink an eye. To the point that copying everyone else is used as a style in itself. Find something in start citizen that has not been lifted from a popular movie, tv series, or game. Every.. single.. thing.

To be honest, I see some parallels, but I think you're exaggerating a bit. They went with the "luxiurious yacht" theme, and curved lines... Same as the ships in E: D went with. I think the word you were looking for is rather "inspired by", but by no means Gutamaya ships but current luxury yacht designs.

some examples:

Also as noted, it is an entire ship, not a cockpit area. It is cohesive, and the video does a good job of explaining it, even if it nitpicks. I wouldn't go as far as calling it "stealing".

In all honesty, as many gripes as I have with Elite lately, does anyone really care what Scam Citizen is doing in their "Space Ship Museum Simulator" game?

Scam Citizen has become the DayZ of the sci-fi genre.

They'll be in perpetual development and keep milking cash from fanboys while adding another ship to their browser museum every now and then to hype more cash out of them.

It's a fairly "standard" sci-fi style really. I'm fairly confident you could find similar interiros in many sci-fi films.

So... no, I think this is more a case of being influenced by the same genre/media, which makes a lot of sense.

Spaceship design is a quite well trodden avenue. It's very difficult doing anything truly original. There's Star Wars, 2001, Alien, Star Trek, Babylon 5... what else that can not be traced to those. Beyond that you got the 50's style and 70's french sci-fi comics.
Mostly when doing something attempting at originality it becomes just contrived in weirdness.
Can't really call it plagiarism.
Love ED's line traversing between realism and Star Wars. Good middle ground. SC has that more american space grunt thing going while ED is utilitarian and economic.

I'd say that's generic Sci-fi look. Most ships in most games are vaguely triangular, which leads to 3 landing legs. Might as well argue elite "stole" the idea from a star destroyer.

One problem I've noted with SC is you seem to need an impressive PC to run it. If they're expecting it to have mass appeal it's going to need to run acceptably well on a modest PC. And as no console version is apparently planned, it IS going to need to rely on PC sales. One of the nice things about Elite is you can run it on quite modest hardware if you turn down the detail a bit. I was able to run it acceptably on an AMD A10 7850k, on low or medium graphics. If/When SC sees the light of day hopefully they'll have got it running on modest hardware. Hopefully.

After copying that ship from EVE Online I can hardly say I'd be suprised.

While I don't believe anyone holds patents on designs, CIG really copies from everyone. I just find it very questionable that project with so much money lacks any good visual identification and it all feels mishmash of all sci-fi universes grabbed together.

They annoy me more by sullying things like 'verse' from Firefly than by plonking sandworms and other peoples ship designs into their unconvincing jpeg selling scam scheme.

Confirmation that Star Citizen is a vampire game!

(no reflection in the mirror when the narrator was in the Captain's restroom :D)

I dont know what to think of star citizen anyway... Seems like its never gonna get released.

If Star Citizen is released before humanity has set foot on Mars IRL then I will be extremely surprised.

Personally I believe we'll have Burger King restaurants on Enceladus before we see Star Citizen released.
