Lol. I'm sure at the same point of development in ED when someone "consulted" our own DB a out offline he would have said yes! Unfortunately things changed so "consulting" "CR" could be equally changed by the time star citizen gets this far....which coincidently could be quite some time indeed. :)

Who gives a rat's posterior what they are promising over there. Roberts has always been about talking the talk anyway.

What a surprise - a STORY DRIVEN single player game can be played offline.

It's really nothing more than a modern Wing Commander or Freespace.

If that's what you wanted, Elite: Dangerous was never for you.

Indeed, things change and whilst offline is not possible for ED, SC is a year or more from release (and that's being optimistic with all the stretch goals) and they may find shoe-horning their development platform into a working model means the same.
So, this is currently all speculation, not facts.

After consulting CR on this issue, we can confirm that Squadron 42 will be playable offline :)

So part of it "may" work offline (at this point in ED's development we thought that it was going to be playable offline as well). Not sure they would be "enjoying" this though, since it is going to put an awful lot of pressure on them to deliver what they say, and given their funding I could imagine their customers being merciless if they don't.

Found some info

Yes, it will have an offline mode for SQ42. However, you won't be able to transfer any progress from it to the PU if you play offline. Mainly because you could crack the game and cheat in offline mode. So if you want your progress to transfer over, you will have to connect and play while online.

It's POSSIBLE you'll be able to play a private server "offline", but it will require a beast of a computer, or a dedicated computer to run the server via LAN.
