Star Grind, Episode 8: Who Mourns for a Dumb Ass

Ya know, it seem to keep taking me longer and longer to do these blasted things. Stupid little things like work and life get in the way. Why, oh why, didn't my father make me independently wealth so I could have more idle time for silliness like this.

Anywho... here it is, a month late, the next episode of my goofy series. And, if you find yourself asking "why, oh why, did I waist my precious time with this nonsense??" Well, I beg you, please don't consider suicide. 9 out of 10 doctors do not recommend it as a solution to what ails you. As for the 10th doctor? The other 9 think he should go off himself. ;)

And now I give you, episode 8: Who Mourns for a Dumb Ass

Enjoy.

Edited to add:

Oops! I forgot to give the Sinister Hedgehog (Andy Moss) and Spaceman Si (Simon Holt) the credit they deserve. Many thanks for their help with their voice work in the video. Give 'em a like when you see them. :)

One hundred Quatloos for the classic Trek episode pun name!

You're the first to notice (at least comment on) that. :) Yep. If you look carefully, except for one, all episodes steal their name from the original Trek and I'm pretty sure most people can guess where that one gets it's title from. ;)

I must admit it’s the first one I’ve watched, but I’ll be rectifying that later on over a glass or two of Leestian Evil Juice :)

Just finished watching them all - top, top work!

I had a good laugh while being impressed about all the little touches, stuff like The Doomsday Machine recreating the special effects shot of the planet killer using an Orbis, the RotJ dialogue, ST2 music etc.

Standing ovation from here!

And you're the first to comment on that one too. :) Yes, that was very intentionally. As the episode came together it became more and more a subtle parody of the Doomsday Machine. And when I settled on the music, I decided I had to "ape" a few scenes from it.

Very observant. And, I'm guessing you're a big Trek fan too.

I’ve always liked classic Trek, and since getting the Blu-ray remastered versions I’m loving it even more, it’s like they’re in proper colour now!

I’d love for the animated “4th year” series to get a similar spit & polish, oh, and while I’m dreaming, using all the voice files from 25th Anniversary & Judgement Rites to make some new episodes :D Oh, and a Blu-ray release for TMP Director’s Cut.

I’ll definitely be rewatching your work, there’s some great comedy timing in there. Hopefully I won’t have to start a letter writing campaign to keep any cancellation axe away :)

It’s great how you weave Elite’s gameplay mechanics into the story. Your clone character is very believable - looking at how virtually every station name and “welcome” is viewed upside down when going through the slot from the majority of ships, it’s definitely a Galaxy of bloody-minded bureaucracy!

Actually, the main point of my little series is to poke some fun at Elite's mechanics, so I'm actually weaving the stories around them. Every episode so far has taken a given "quirk" and tried to build a (semi) realistic explanation around it. Beauregrad, for example, was created poke fun at some of Elite's rather inflexible rules. He was later cloned to explain why this inflexibility can be found just about anywhere. The explanation being: it's all this guy's fault, and his little clones too. The Duvuz character was as a poke at certain NPCs who announce their intention and who give you fair warning of their attack, only after that did the story slowly evolve into a Wrath of Khan parody. The explanation being, of course, that these guys are pretty dumb. Similarly, the smuggling episode started out as a lampoon of how blatantly obvious it should be to spot smugglers in real life and then eventually became a slight Doomsday Machine parody. This latest episode is poking fun a the fact that there really would/should be inquests and inquiries after an incident of that magnitude, which is why the final joke is Beauregrad declaring "nah, I'm just messin' with ya!" :D

Glad you enjoyed them, hope you enjoy them still on the re-watch. :)
