Star Id from Cockpit tool

I am mainly a explorer in ED and I don't know how many times I saw a bright star in the direction I was going and wish there was a way to ID it.

So I am suggesting a Stellar ID tool, that you could use from the cockpit.

basically it would let your select any star you can see from your window and go to in in the galactic map, maybe have a mouse guided cross-hair (could even be part of the mouse look around function).,

I hope this would not be too difficult to implement.

thanks for such a great game.

This has been suggested before and I don't think the background renderer is capable of feeding back that information. I believe there was more to it than that though, but I can't recall.

It wouldn't be hard to save the star name when populating the sky box, and so allow selection. The tricky bit would be responsiveness when in dense areas with many bright stars.
