Star system "Between"

Oho, interesting find. My first thought was that this would be a deliberately-named system, from a contest reward or somesuch, but there are two things wrong with that. One: as far as I know, outside of the Kickstarter rewards, later people only got to name planets, not systems. Two: it's a rather silly name. But then I remembered something, from back in FE2.
You see, in the Eta Cassiopeia system, one of the planets was named "Between". A quick check: in ED, it's also present. (Although the system name has been changed to Eta Cassiopeiae since.) So what if this was some very obscure error where the Forge actually pulled that name for the system, instead of something else? Then I checked, and this Between system is in the middle of non-procedural systems from a star catalogue. As such, I'd say it's likely to be a pointer error or somesuch.

So here I am in Between system listening to "Linkin Park - In Between" :D
(nothing special)

Someone at Frontier is now scratching his head and going "How did they even FIND this? How much time do those people have??" ;)

First Discovered By: Star Falcon.

Argh! My nemesis! Damn you, Star Falcon!

I swear, every time I've gone on an exploration trip I've run into more tags by bloody Star Falcon than anyone else!
Ooh there's a nice looking nebula, I'll go an check it out - Tagged by Star Falcon.
Oh a planetary nebula... Star Falcon.
Maybe this seemingly random, distant, interesting looking area of space I've noticed whilst I've been out in seemingly uncharted space with not a tag in sight for several months..... Nope, tagged by Star Falcon. :(

You do realise that Star falcon is probably just you with a time machine jumping back in time to screw with your younger self? That's the only possible explanation!

This is hoax! This system is not between those two, its just an angle that you are posting this pic. System is almost 1000 ly away from those Nebulae.

It isn't a hoax. Open your galaxy map and search for "Between". Once it locates the system zoom out. Although "Between" isn't actually located between the Heart and Soul nebulae it's apparent position, viewed from the default angle of the Galaxy Map places it visually between those two landmarks.

Yea but why?

Because there were two BD+56 521s.

I found the coordinates for Between in EDSM, reversed the numbers to calculate right ascension and declination and the plugged those into Simbad. The closest real-world star to Between is BD+56 521. Looked that up in EDSM and found a warning that there were two of them. Then googled "Elite: Dangerous BD+56 521" and found the patch notes.

It's just another case of Frontier accidentally adding a duplicate because two different stellar catalogs predict a different distance to the star.

Interesting. Mystery solved, I suppose - thanks everyone!

There's quite a lot of duplicate systems out there, it will be interesting to see if there are further renamings.

I really wish it had been something more... I like being an investigative explorer :)

V1577 Cygni is also duplicated. Search for it; then search for the Cocoon Nebula and look slightly 'north' of it for the duplicate. I filed a bug report some time ago.
