Star Trek: Bridge Crew - releases today!

I think I'm going to pick this up tonight. I'm reading nothing but good things and Obsidian Ants video looked really fun.

Something that really appeals to me is that Oculus, Vive, and PSVR players all play together. That's awesome and great for VR and just gaming in general.

Elite should take note of that....

Bridge explosions.

That is actually one of my pet peeves with star trek. And yeah its a dramatic effect on the tv show.

But who designs a computer interface that shock, or blow up the operator during a power surge ?
SERIOUSLY WHO?
The riddler would be my only guess.

Wouldn't it be more believable if the bridge itself was super insulated and compartmentalized, we are talking about spaceships after all, a hole in the wall is not a good thing.
There really should not be bridge explosions AT ALL!

Cross play is really good - played last night with 2x Rift, 1x Vive and 1x PS4. :)

Really enjoying it - but need to get a "professional" posse together for some private group stuff - there's loads of new people who are taking a while to pick it up, which is a touch tedious when you know the systems and are jumping into open games. It's good to help them sure, but sometimes you just want to see how good you can do it with a decent crew :)

I shall add you in my Ubi friends list assuming you use the same nick? If you see a friend request from Chazymondo, that is me. It was along time ago and I couldn't get my usual nick name.

Had a good time last night playing with my mate. Just the two of us and a couple of AI's and we did quite well I think. A gripping exit from that trench, just beaming the last survivors aboard and warping out with about 7 seconds or less before the system went nova. With the warp coils only keeping their charge for a limited time, it really creates a great balancing act with the time on scans, transports, keeping the helm aligned ready for jump etc. Especially when you're under pressure. I did captaining and he mostly did tactical with the odd bit of helm. I can see that without a good crew that engineering could be a bit dull. Having said that quite a bit of my time was spent issuing orders to the ai crewman at the engineering console as my mate asked for more power to phasers and I was constantly getting engineering to give more engine power or shields and making repairs to various systems.

Actually there is a lore-based reason for that. Since the primary source of power is plasma, and that is, unfortunately quite sensitive to power spikes and the like, it has to lose the excess power through whatever is handy - which in the case of starships seems to be the numerous power conduits that route the power flow... thus the sparking, mini explosions, redshirts flying through the air.. that sort of thing.

Of course, noone seems to have invented the plasma equivalent of a fuse box... but hey ho. Science. :D

I might never be able to afford the hardware but watching can be really entertaining. Imagine the potential with sciences and communications in a crew of 6. Non-linear story-driven. A klingon expansion pack.

Yes, I'm in the same situation. My laptop couldn't handle it suffice to say I don't own any VR equipment.

I finally played online last night, after playing solo a bit, and it was a blast. When you land a good crew it's a great experience, everyone having an idea on what to do at their post and a good captain was a lot of fun.

I landed a few bad crews, too, and that was just hilarious. Like Star Trek: The Outtakes or something.

I hope they add other ships, including Klingons, so we can play against others.

Hi All,

Quite excited about bridge crew after reading all these comments :D I plan to run it on the CV1 once my rig is sorted here in the UK . Quick question though, has anyone tried it on the PS4? is the quality quite poor compared to the rift? My girlfriend is a massive Star Trek fan, am thinking of picking up a PS4 for her.

I have not, no, but one of the blokes I was in a crew with last night was on the PS4. Basically, he wanted a Vive/Rift but they were out of his price range, he already had a PS4 and so he went down that path. He was enjoying it just as much as the rest of us, and loved his PSVR. Everyone playing on a PSVR was

The graphics are pretty simple, nice and crisp but not overly complex shapes or textures. She should really dig it :)

Picked this up yesterday and had a blast, when the crew is right that is. I play under Wyldebosie.

I put on my Rift this morning and something resembling the Enterprise flew over my home!
First time advertising almost worked on me, don't like Ubisoft (can't actually remember why), but when that beautiful ship flew over my head I almost bought it there and then.

...First VR game for me, that really shows the potential of a quite new technology.
'Ouch!' said Elite Dangerous :)

Uplay, I'm sure it's Uplay. That thing is an abomination among launchers. Compared to Uplay, Origin is a polished experience. But I myself have been eyeing Bridge Crew with interest, though the lack of VR means I have to hope they release a "normal" version :D

I picked this up. First impressions are great. I can sit and watch the opening flight around the Aegis all day.

This game certainly is now a benchmark for virtual multiplay. There is a lot of thought in design and some great takeaways for future VR games.

I just finished my academy training and am ready to join a crew! Excited to have a new space game!

(And I happen to really like JJs universe)

Edit: played my first multi-crew. Great experience with randoms. I think it's that people who get this are really into Star Trek and have the passion for VR. I felt like everyone really wanted to do a good job, it was really fun. I'm still waiting for that moment to say "Klingons off the starboard bow." Or the one every engineer dreams of.."I'm giving her all I've got capn!"

Got this, but haven't played multiplayer yet. Seems pretty slick but I'm having a hard time really getting into it because I loathe what Star Trek has become. It's basically just Fast & Furious in space these days, and all previous canon is ignored (I know it's a different universe, but certain things should still apply) seemingly to avoid the viewer having to engage their brain for more than 0.1s
