Must be some fellow trekkers on these forums, i have mixed feelings about the new series from what we know so far, but i'd like to get an idea of the views of more people, a frontier forum sample will do just fine for that.
I'm quite excited about a new Star Trek. Hoping they can pull it off, some new ideas and concepts (several crews being one, from my understand) could be quite an awesome thing, if done well.
Z...
I really want to be excited for it but to be honest, I was hoping they would go forward with the timeline and set it after Voyager (which was my favorite Trek) got home.
That said, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it. Here's hoping.
My favorite was also voyager, and yes i. agree, it would have been great to continue with that timeline (in the movies as well). But i still think i can enjoy the new trek, but i'm only cautiously enthusiastic because i'm aware it could be rubbish.. i mean, just look at the terrrible ship and CGI in the teaser.
thoughts ?
Good sci fi actions, but ST?Terrible. Trek is dead. It's been Abrams-ified, and I can't stand the Abrams reboot.
I agree with you on the last part, it won't be as good as the TNG era shows, but.....i also agree with Minonian, i think it will be good sci fi, probably not great star trek.I actually had some hope when I first heard about this project, since the guy behind it had worked on DS9 before as a writer I believe. He was saying all the right things - how he wanted to do something new and yet familiar to fans, and how he wanted the aesthetic to be closer to classic trek, etc.
Then CBS kicked him out and put the entire show through the Abrams-o-Matic and now we've got this.
Could it still be good? I suppose. It's not something I'm looking forward to, I'll say that. I have lost most all hope that I'll ever see a Trek as good as what we had in the TNG/DS9/Voyager days.
If they darken the series up a bit I'd like that. That's what I liked about DS9 particularly the dominion storylines they went away a bit more from the "happy clappy future" view that ST is generally known for.
