Must be some fellow trekkers on these forums, i have mixed feelings about the new series from what we know so far, but i'd like to get an idea of the views of more people, a frontier forum sample will do just fine for that.

I'm quite excited about a new Star Trek. Hoping they can pull it off, some new ideas and concepts (several crews being one, from my understand) could be quite an awesome thing, if done well.

I think you are in the warp 9 category with me. Can't disagree with the new ideas part, but lets hope it's not a flop. A great legacy is hard to maintain, and discovery wants to join my Star trek DVD collection.

I really want to be excited for it but to be honest, I was hoping they would go forward with the timeline and set it after Voyager (which was my favorite Trek) got home.

That said, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it. Here's hoping.

My favorite was also voyager, and yes i. agree, it would have been great to continue with that timeline (in the movies as well). But i still think i can enjoy the new trek, but i'm only cautiously enthusiastic because i'm aware it could be rubbish.. i mean, just look at the terrrible ship and CGI in the teaser.

I haven't seen the teaser yet. I'll take a look shortly.

I'm hoping it's good. Like, really hoping...

Abrams suck really bad at making these things. He should have studied the Great ones instead of reading the Torah.

But I love Star Trek... so what the anti-heaven, I will have a go at it!

Waiting for it, but i will not pass any judgment until i see it. :)

Ambrams? What he did with the timeline? I guess he is the butcher type, slicing and dicing as he pleases, removing everything leaving next to nothing from the original, and than reshaping the whole thing to his idea.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I actually had some hope when I first heard about this project, since the guy behind it had worked on DS9 before as a writer I believe. He was saying all the right things - how he wanted to do something new and yet familiar to fans, and how he wanted the aesthetic to be closer to classic trek, etc.

Then CBS kicked him out and put the entire show through the Abrams-o-Matic and now we've got this.

Could it still be good? I suppose. It's not something I'm looking forward to, I'll say that. I have lost most all hope that I'll ever see a Trek as good as what we had in the TNG/DS9/Voyager days.

I agree with you on the last part, it won't be as good as the TNG era shows, but.....i also agree with Minonian, i think it will be good sci fi, probably not great star trek.

Which is a serious mistake if you ask me that might be brings more people to the cinema in short terms, but in long terms also makes impossible to build up a lasting fan base, by destroying the so called "spirit". That's what keeps the people inside the fold. It's just makes the whole thing soulless Abrams basically kills the most essential part of the movie. it's soul, in favor of the externalityes.

I thought the trailer looks promising.

I'm also amused by the people who got upset with the cast being "too diverse" and having all those women im prominent roles :D It makes you wonder exactly what such social conservatives thought they were watching before? "This show about a utopian, egalitarian future has way too much equality and progress!"

The problem is not with Womens or LMBTQ but the simpe truth we fallen to the other side of the fence which is never good and also just as bad.

If they darken the series up a bit I'd like that. That's what I liked about DS9 particularly the dominion storylines they went away a bit more from the "happy clappy future" view that ST is generally known for.

I loved DS9. What better way to explore the "utopian future" than to actually put it under an existential threat. The way all that prosperity and freedom threatened to turn into a police state was great as well.
