Star Trucker

The art style and music is nice, but it seems to be linear objectives and the space truck is very slow (max speed is 200 mph).

It'll go down well with fans of Euro Truck and the like I suspect. For some reason...it greatly appeals to me judging purely from what I've seen on that demo vid 🤷‍♂️

I don't know if I'm allowed to bring this up now, as this thread is almost seven months old, but Star Trucker was released today. I have been looking forward to it for some time, and so bought it immediately and played the tutorial. It is really cool. I mean, great visuals, great atmosphere, great music. If you like trucking sims, and you love space sims, you're about to have a whole lot of fun, because the devs have done a great job capturing the feel of trucking in outer space, as odd as that sentence may sound.

You can get up and move around in your truck, you can EVA to repair damage, you can dock with spaceports to take new jobs (it's a menu screen, kind of like how Elite Dangerous used to work in its first release). I'm loving the heck out of it already, and I highly recommend it. Right now it's only $23 on Steam, so it's a good price for a new release.

Nice one...Thanks for the heads up, downloading it now (y)

I've done my first few missions. The map system is easy, the navigation is relatively simple, the controls are good once you get the hang of them, and it really feels like you're hauling in space. I don't want to oversell it, obviously, but I am having a blast.

Still SF trucking. But this long awaited release just took space trucking to Hutton to the next level. The degree of realism, features and operational functionality definitely exceeded all my expectations. Never expected this level of detail from a AA game like this. It's literally the space version of Alaskan Trucker. It's all of the game's survival/operational features and immersive game mechanics I've always wanted in ETS2/ATS:-
  • Immersive EVA to repair your cab of hull breaches from environmental hazards and space debris interaction
  • Picking up extra odd jobs besides your contract job
  • Being able to "go off road" off the designated super highways. Cutting corners to save on mission time or just explore a region of space you're in.
  • Black Markets and legal trading hubs
  • Paint, maintenance, fuel and other O&M shops at hubs and other remote areas in the galaxy. Forces you to pre plan accordingly.
  • Environmental hazards like solar storms, anomalies, junk salvage fields and electrical storms
  • Running the risk of permadeath on higher difficulty levels when off roading from the established highway lanes.
  • Running the risk of going bankrupt for failing to pay any fines at stations or vehicle moving violations for speed, reckless driving etc.
  • Buying non freight/commodity items from vendor stores realistically load these items directly into your ship elevator. Your PC has to manually carry them down to storage in the cargo bay.
  • Failing to secure loose items in the cargo bay results in these items colliding and being broken during transit. And/or permanently damaged if not manually secured in designated storage containers. Any event resulting in Newtonian physics from going through jump gates, collision with space bodies, other NPC trucks etc.
  • Dying from impact with unsecured items from your PC dropping them to the mechanical shock of going through jump gates etc.
  • Speeding fines and weighing stations are a reality like in ETS2. With significant Ops and financial penalties
  • Ability to take verbal jobs and favor missions from NPC truckers on your CB radio. Needing to pay attention to what their missions are as they're not computer based
  • Having to constantly buy parts to maintain the interior of of your truck like air filters, battery and O2 suit cannisters
  • Salvaging food, mats, meds, equipment etc. in EVA. Ability to trade these at stations and on Black Markets
  • Having to maintain your suit for Ox and power for EVA and other emergency cab activities if your cab power is offline etc. etc.
Those are just some starters.

Dealmaker was feeling a 2nd hand anxiety when an additional rush delivery contract got taken out by Drae, a favorite YTer. Listening to the extent of rising alarm (and mounting panic) in Drae's voice as he constantly FUBARs the simple hook up connection to said rush delivery trailer. Inspired by the fact the game did NOT deign to hold his hand. Instead, taught Drae the consequences of his actions from failing to observe his speed and control his drift velocity during that hook up maneuver at 8:34 min. Then gave him all the creative freedom to problem solve his trailer re-attachment. And the prerogative make any desired repairs (had that been necessary) while the mission clock kept ticking.

100% sold. Sitting on my Steam DL list for download once I get off work. This will definitely scratch that logistics itch I always had in Hardspace from not being able to travel around in a ship.

Also came across this very helpful highlight tips for trucking n00bs
