This will not stop. People will keep buying and pre-ordering those games and loot crates and big companies will just calculate that they can loose some PR to a few vocal YT-ers and upset community but if the money is flowing, they will keep this trend going. Why would they stop? That would be just bad for business. This will be a standard model for a years to come, mark my word.

but what can you do , his mates get it so he has to have it
companies know this and use it to there advantage

Will it? tough to say, as long as 'enough' keep buying the game, probably not, however many people seem to give up under "game looks great and my purchase isn't going to make a difference" when it exactly does make a difference.
If everyone simply stopped buying EA games, then they would feel it, but yes there's a big......eventually, tagged on it.

But yes one of the problems is that the game itself can be fine, gameplay enjoyable, when the other part of the game, the balance of it, is based around pay to win..

Not really bothered by the loot crate thing. I'd happily play the base game and gain the unlocks that way....

....

If it wasn't a complete load of rubbish as a game. Too arcadey, chokepointy murder death kill, no longevity for me anyway. I've played 500 hours of the brilliant BF1 but I refunded this rubbish after 5 hours.

In Holland the government is looking into this game as cards loot boxes is viewed as illegal gambling.
Also putting children in touch with gambling

Really? I could not stand the BF1 extremely arcadey, running-like-a-headless-chicken-and-gunning multiplayer... I was hoping this one would have a bit more depth... sad.

I don't like that argument of "Well you don't have to buy them!" etc. They miss the point that the game has been deformed to such a degree to promote the purchase of loot boxes. Couple that with the most nausiating implementation where they fall from the sky and others can see them in the world as you open them and you have the most horrendous mashing together of mobile free to play mechanics and "AAA" gaming. Just awful.

Yup, they've already earned money if you buy the game itself, anything extra, is just that, extra to them, and as far as I see they want to reach GTA V levels, GTA V has earned silly amounts of money through microtransactions and made playing without increasingly difficult.

Biowaste! Thanks for the heads up though.

No problem I'd urge you to make your own mind up though. Try it for a few hours and see if sits with you. If not then the refund process is easy peasy and quick. I had my refund with in a day. Fair play to EA for that at least.

I'm gutted also really wanted this to be a good game but I just can't recommend it not even talking about the loot box thing.

"Well you don't have to buy them!" - yeah we heard that when dlc`s were introduced, when season passes where introduced, and now when mobile loot boxes are a thing in the 60 bucks game - we lost ok? Dont tell us that we dont need to buy those stuff, we get it - we wont buy them. We lost. Keep buying this stuff. [up] We old gamers will just remember fun and excitements of earning stuff by playing the game and being good at it. And also getting the full game content when payed for it. Some old man rambling stuff I know.

I wanted to enjoy some SW universe, but...no, just no.

P.S.
Belgium’s gambling regulators are investigating Battlefront 2 loot boxes

Star Wars gaming is dead. Has been dead for many years now.
EA got involved, and therefore it is even deader than dead is dead.

I have given up waiting for an SW game I can play.
I realized there will be none.
Only garbage to come. Typical EA garbage.

So, so sad. The IP is one of the most promising for game creation in all possible genres.
For some reason game hating, money loving companies have gotten their filthy claws in it and they are shredding it to pieces.
