General / Off-Topic Star Wars Battlefront II

I picked up a copy of this game during the May The 4th sale (got it for a great price). It basically sat on my hard drive until recently, but with my recent frustrations with ED, I started the campaign mode, and I'm really enjoying this game! It's fun to play and looks amazing, even on my humble PS4 Slim.

So here is my question - why did this game get so much hate in the media when it released? I'm guessing it was a different game back then than it is now? I picked up Skyrim years after it first released, and I remember reading about all sorts of terrible bugs when that game first dropped, bugs which were later fixed. Is this the case with SWB2? I also read something about loot boxes, which I've seen a version of in campaign mode, but I've really not given them much thought. My default character is fun to play as-is.

I haven't done multiplayer yet, not sure when I'll cross that bridge. Anyone else have this game on PS4? I'm a bit leery of giving my info to EA (you need an EA account for multiplayer). When you signed up, did you get spammed by them?

Anyway, the game is very beautiful, fun to play, and it even lets you fly spaceships! It took me some fiddling, but I figured out how to fly from inside the cockpit with controls fairly similar to ED. I basically started playing to make sure my PS4 isn't bad as people keep suggesting (it's not), but I'm finding the game surprisingly enjoyable, especially considering all the headlines I saw when it first released.

ps - does this game support 4K and HDR?

Isn't it an EA game ? (might explain some of it)

I don't have it but from what I remember it was a full price game with in game extras that were were essential to progress the game within a reasonable time frame. Full price or Free to play with extras is the norm. EA (I believe) tried to boost their bank balance by doing both and caused the outcry.

It is an amazingly polished game. The backlash came from their really aggressive and over the top loot crates that cost real money. And if you spent lots of money you were just given a chance to get more powerful ingame assets. Essentaily pay for a chance to win. It was a pretty low play and it cost the game it's reputation. It was a shame. They backtracked really fast, but the damage had been done.
