General / Off-Topic Star Wars the last Jedi

So I finally watched it, and it was just one of the most toe crunching expirences ive had for a long time.

The story socked, the characters were silly and every thing in between just stupid. Disney finally killed my childhood and it didn’t felt good.

I’m I getting old? What’s wrong with today’s movies, are they just getting more and more stupid?

I praise Blade Runner 2049 was a good movie, so there is still hope.....

Star Wars films are for kids, nostalgia goggles skew your view of the old ones which to be honest were not really much better.

Not false :p ! But let's keep the part of the child which is in us and until the death

That's the key to enjoying them, don't overanalyze exactly the same as Pixar or Wallace and Gromit.

For example all the "Mary Sue" complaints about the Disney films, in the first star wars film Princess Leia is a deadlier shot than Han and Luke combined and saves the day when they are facing certain death in the detention area. Why no outrage about that ?.

Empire is my favorite star wars movie because of the age I was when I saw it, I could appreciate the story but not spot the holes. By the time ROTJ came out I thought the Ewoks were rubbish and a cynical merchandising cash in, still enjoyed the film though.

Given the demographic of many ED players, I'm probably more inclined to ask how old you are before mourning your lost childhood .. too much ..

:D

Have to agree that the original Star Wars films were spectacular and event movies but not exactly Shakespeare, though I was 7 when A New Hope first released. I thought it was! I actually like the new movie (preferred it to Force Awakens) though I also appreciate the prequels, for what they are.

Star Wars doesn't fail on creature effects or sappiness but for me it also doesn't fail on going somewhere quite interesting, with the whole Jedi/Sith thing either. By suggesting right and wrong are never cut and dried (that no good deed ever goes unpunished or don't rest on your laurels etc etc) I see this as a much more interesting set up than white hat vs black hat, which ultimately is kind of boring, no matter how flashy the lightsaber duel at the end. If the Jedi can whoop pretty much anything the Galaxy throws at them, why not make their most dangerous enemy come from within? I go for that myself.

I watched it. Just about.

It's so crap.

But I really loved the "hyperspace bit".

I want to do that to trolls in ED. Lol

But then that brings up loads of questions. Like why did no one do that before? To the death star. Or a planet. Or everything ever.

Rest of the movie, utter drivel. Lol

Just saw it myself.
While watching it I had to force myself to not think about how I was watching a regurgitated episode IV, then I was able to get through it.
It was ok, not good, but ok.

Hollywood has one golden rule it always adheres too THE MOVIE GOING PUBLIC IS STUPID or so it believes. This rule allows it to constantly turn out-turgid remakes of every film made. Look at the Spider-Man, superman and batman franchises, all they did was change the lead actor every few years and remake exactly the same film plot. The public lapped it up and so the movie makers carried on turning out the same old tripe.
The movie industry is extremely adverse to taking risks with its productions especially with billions at stake, so it should come as no surprise that when faced with the dilemma of trying something slightly risky with a whole new Star Wars story or rehashing the original 3 movie plots and pushing them as NEW they chose option B. The funny thing is Rogue One is actually a decent attempt at a Star Wars movie the other two are there simply to fill the desire of the masses and as long as they continue to accept ‘rehash’ As ‘new’ that’s all we will get

I know what you mean OP. Much of the story of TLJ seemed misguided nonsensically and written by someone(s) with a personal agenda. Technically well done but treading dangerously into becoming a farce of the lore and franchise. Agreed BR2049 was refreshingly a respectable sequel.

Written by an incompetent writer who didn't bother to check what was actually written in the previous movie.
Utterly waste of time, I actually was reading news on my I pad at some point :D Even Jar jar binks was more funny than this stupid compilation of nonsense.

It wasn't scary, the characters was poorly made, ahhhgggggggggggggg I hate it :D

This is how I remember it....

Eworks was rubbish, totally agree.

SW Rouge One was actually a good SW movie.

I was somewhat disappointed by this one too.
Having said that, all Star Wars movies have always been a bit hit and miss.
I think it is a big problem that they can't dazzle us anymore with special effects. We are used to them now.

The latest Star Wars movies mostly repeat scenes that have been done in the older movies.
They arrange them in different sequences and they add a few different lines, but it basically is the same stuff again and again.
I felt very embarrassed when they came up with another, but bigger and better, Death Star that was destroyed just as easily.

I think I would have liked TLJ a lot more if it'd had an A plot. As is, it was a movie full of B plots, some of which weren't really necessary. Even crappier episodes of Star Trek TNG usually had an A plot and then one or more B plots. When I rewatched the film after its home release I really tried to figure out if there was an A plot to the movie, and there just isn't one. It should have been stuff with Rey and Luke, but there's only so much you can do with a tiny island monastery.

I did enjoy it for its faults, but it made me very, very worried for the future of the SW franchise. A Star Wars film every year is going to eventually lead to a real stinker. I'm not sure I'm on board with Rian Johnson having a trilogy of his own, or with the idea of having, I dunno, Star Wars Episode XIV in 2030.

Things are pretty much knackered, but Luke is seen to sacrifice himself to save the last of the rebels and by becoming a martyr triggers a new faith in both the jedi and the rebellion. Hence the people spreading his legend at the end, and the real giveaway the kid sweeping the floor in the final scene doesn't pick the brush up the handle moves to his hand by the power of the force !!!.

Last jedi my bottom.

I liked it, but the whole Finn plot should have been removed to make a tighter film. It was like 'We have to give that guy something to do'.

But overall enjoyed it. I am 40.
