General / Off-Topic Star Wars Theories - SPOILERS???

This thread is related to Star Wars rumors and theories and may or may not contain spoilers for future film releases. If you don't want someone's wild guesswork to possibly ruin upcoming story surprises, Turn Back NOW!

I'm a huge fan of Star Wars, but I've never considered any of the expanded universe of novels, comic books or games to be reliable canon. Each time a new episode hits the theaters, it usually contradicts with something from the EU. That's why I can't buy into some of the theories on the internet, because people tend to apply too many elements from non-movie sources to predict where the saga is heading. Even though Disney has thrown out all previous EU canon except for Clone Wars and the new Rebels series, the only real source for clues is the movies themselves.

After watching a video of a Reddit user who posted a theory about Jar Jar Binks actually being a Force user, I had to go back and rewatch Episode I to see for myself. The evidence is amazing, and it's possible, however unlikely, that this theory was initially fact but was abandoned by Lucas. I think it would be awesome if true. It would add an interesting layer to the saga.

"Plagueis Assassinated Sidious"

While I was watching TPM, I noticed a few things I hadn't before, or never thought much about until Disney announced they were making more SW episodes. In the scene where Jar Jar asks the Queen if she thinks their people are going to die, Binks tells her that the Gungans have a grand army. Amidala stands there thinking for a moment as Palpatine walks in, all happy and smiling because he's sure he will be elected chancellor. When Amidala says she is returning to Naboo to save their planet, Palpatine is clearly caught offguard by her statement. He did not foresee her doing that. Whether on purpose or not, Jar Jar changed future events and ruined Sidious' visions about what was going to happen on Naboo.

This in and of itself was no big deal, until I remembered that the Emperor didn't foresee that Luke was going to be on Endor in Return of the Jedi. He didn't sense young Skywalker's presences, and even doubted Vader's feelings on the matter. Later, when Luke defeated Vader but refused to kill his father by throwing away his lightsaber, Sidious looked annoyed and just stood there for a moment. He hadn't foreseen that happening either. Luke was suppose to either turn to the darkside or die fighting Vader. Something or someone was blocking Sidious' visions, just as he himself had done to the Jedi and Senate during the Clone Wars. Did Plagueis have a hand in setting Sidious up to be killed by Luke and Anakin that day on the second Death Star?

Palpatine told Anakin that Darth Plagueis knew how to stop people from dying. The Sith are selfish, so it's logical to assume he meant Plagueis knew how to keep himself from dying. Plagueis probably never revealed this ability to his apprentice, but Sidious figured it out and used that knowledge to make sure his master couldn't resurrect himself after being killed. You can hear the smugness in Sidious' voice as he tells that part of the story to Anakin. But I think Plagueis tricked Sidious, so that Sidious would do all the work in seducing Skywalker, destroying the Jedi and wiping out the Republic. Plagueis just lurked in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to return.

At the end of RotJ, Vader threw the Emperor into a deep shaft, and a whirlwind of blue energy rose up to engulf Vader, then it receded away. This effect never occurred when any of the other Sith Lords died. I think this was Sidious trying to save his 'spirit' by possessing someone else, but Luke and Anakin where both 'good' at that moment, he had sent his guards away, and they were way up in a tower high above the Death Star's surface. Plagueis had probably foreseen all of this long, long ago. He knew how to make sure Sidious wouldn't survive. So that's one of my current theories. I've read a few others out there that were similar, but none of them touched on the fact that Sidious' vision had been clouded several times.

Unless Disney stretches the saga out to 12 parts, the next 2 episodes should be the final Act of the Skywalker saga. This is usually where the bad guys reveal everything about their dastardly plans and the heros face their greatest challenges.

"A Tragic Love Story"

Many people agree that the love affair between Anakin and Padme felt awkward and forced, for both the actors AND the audience. That's because it was suppose to be. Anakin had been constantly thinking about Padme for 10 years before they finally meet each other again. She looked exactly how he remembered her in his dreams too. In fact it's clear that he couldn't control his obsession for her. She was also reluctant, like she wanted to express herself, but it felt all wrong. She only gave in and told him her feelings when she thought they were about to die.

Sidious was likely the one who had the tusken raiders on Tatooine kidnap Anakin's mother Shmi. They tortured her for over a month without killing her, which caused Anakin's nightmares. You can hear the Sith Lord's theme playing as Anakin tells Padme about what he did to all the sandpeople. It makes sense that Sidious.. or someone.. was also manipulating their affections for each other, forcing them into a relationship against their will and without their knowledge. I'm confident Sidious caused the nightmares about Anakin's mother and wife's suffering in order to drive him to the darkside. But personally I think he wasn't the one responsible for getting them together, or for Anakin's obsession for Padme.

If Plagueis was hiding in the shadows all that time, he probably was behind the love affair all along, foreseeing that Anakin and his offspring would kill Sidious one day. These poor kids were being manipulated by two different Sith Lords at the same time. So as off as the dialogue and performances may have felt, I don't think Lucas could have told that story differently without giving away the hidden plot elements. Could the films have been done better? Probably, but fortunatly I'm not as critical as some hardcore fans.

I wont go into how Jar Jar just happened to be in the same room, alone with both of them, in the two scenes from TPM where they are bonding. Or when Anakin blatantly defied Obiwan in front of Padme at the beginning of AotC, and the camera just happened to focus on Jar Jar at that exact moment. Mainly because there's no proof that Binks was involvement in any way. It's just circumstantial evidence. But I guess that's what theories are all about.

There is a simpler answer to all of these questions: No force user can simply look into the future and see exactly what will definitely happen. Otherwise, no jedi or sith would ever be surprised by anything, and order 66 would have been a huge disaster for the clone armies - it was Yoda alone who saw what was coming and that was while the clones were already receiving the instruction, no earlier.

I think you're right about that. Yoda said the future was always in motion, which means it's predictable for the Sith and Jedi, but unknown factors can change those visions, as Jar Jar proved in TPM. In TESB, the Emperor calls Vader on the phone and tells him they have a new enemy who could destroy them. When Vader suggests turning Luke to the darkside, the Emperor thinks on it and says "Yes, he would be a great asset". So it appears their visions are based on what they know about someone or something, and is never a flawless prediction of what is to come.

But SW is a fantasy, with knights and magic, monsters and ghosts. Darth Plagueis could be using an ancient Sith artifact that has kept him alive for hundreds or even thousands of years, and/or might have help him manipulate the Force in order to create Anakin. Kylo also seems to be obsessed with artifacts as well, and apparently Anakin/Luke's old lightsaber has now become one such artifact, with a will of it's own (though Obiwan's ghost might have had something to do with holding the saber down, preventing Kylo from summoning it).

Such an artifact may be how Plagueis could predict things far into the future as well, especially if he has a hand in making sure it all comes to pass. Apparently unforeseen events can often cause those predictions to be altered, for both Sith and Jedi. If Plagueis knew of Luke and Leia's birth (which I'm sure he did) and Sidious did not, then that gives Plagueis the upper hand in knowing what will happen.

Next Movie will start on a Ice Planet!

Maybe, but they already rehashed the desert planet, forest planet and snow planet in Episode 7. The next films should {hopefully} bring us new worlds that haven't been seen yet. I've read of interviewers and biography writers who spoke with Lucas about what is in the final trilogy. They all said the story outline for the next movies had some of the coolest worlds and locations in the whole saga. Here's hoping.

Someone I know told me they have just finished working on a Star wars film and that it was not 'the force awakens' (although they did work on that too), they said this film goes back to before episode IV.

We started talking about something else, but I was wondering later what film that could be.

Rogue One - it's out later this year.

... I was wondering later what film that could be.

That's probably 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story', schedule for release next Christmas. It's a stand-alone anthology film about the rebels who steal the blueprints for the first Death Star. It's the part in the original film's crawl that states, "Rebel ships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire..." It's said to be a straight-up war movie with no Jedi/Force stuff in it. Rumors are that Vader and Tarken will have cameos, along with bounty hunters like Boba Fett and Cad Bane (from Clone Wars). It might have Luke's old buddy Biggs Darklighter, and the hidden rebel base is probably Yavin 4.

"Hate Leads To Suffering!"

I consider this next post to be a theory because there's no proof otherwise as of yet. I was afraid Disney was going to drop Lucas' overall plot for the saga completely, but the end credits of TFW has given me hope. This is still Lucas’ saga. He wrote the third trilogy first, then asked Hammil, Fisher and Ford if they would be in it. Amazingly they all agreed, including Harrison Ford! Then Lucas sold everything to Disney. They brought in Michael Arndt to help Lucas flesh out the whole trilogy. After conning Abrams into directing the first movie, Lucas and Arndt left, saying Disney didn’t want to use Lucas’ version. They wanted Lucas to appear not to be involved so that the prequel haters would go to see Episode 7 with an open mind. Abrams brought Kasden in to make the film look and feel just like the original trilogy as much as possible, which is why Lucas (twice) announced that Disney didn’t like his story and wanted to make something for the fans (a.k.a. prequel haters. That’s right, this ‘homage’ movie is all their fault).

The proof is in the end credits, when it says Written by Abrams, Kasden AND Arndt. That means they are still using the story that Lucas and Arndt worked out together. I’m very glad that other people are writing the screenplays instead of Lucas, but if they aren’t using Lucas’ original outlines, then the rest of the saga episodes are nothing more than officially authorized fan-fiction.

Here's my conspiracy/surprise theory:

Rey is going to the dark side, and Kylo Ren will be the "good guy".

Why?

- The element of surprise. Rey is a very cool, dangerous, pure (and good-looking!) protagonist. Exactly who you wouldn't expect to turn.

- No female villians: There have been plenty cool female protagonists in the film series - Amidala, Leia, Rey, many female Jedi. But never a female villian.. (apart from Captain Phasma who barely features!)

- Leia blames Luke for Kylo Ren turning to the dark side. Who does Rey meet at the end of The Force Awakens? Luke.

- Everyone loves the underdog: Most movies set the villain to be all powerful and the hero up to be the underdog.. Rey is clearly the more powerful one, she masters the force in moments, and easily defeats Kylo Ren. While Kylo Ren is obviously a flawed character traumatised by his family history, with which people can identify.

IMO, it'd be very, very cool to see a female Sith

That would be cool to have a female Sith Lord in the movies. Ventress from Clone Wars was one of my favorite characters in that series, but unfortunately she never got promoted to Sith. But why Rey? Have you ever considered that General Leia might be the one who turns to the darkside? Personally I think that Darth Leia would be the coolest and most powerful Sith Mistress ever seen. Leia was willing to sacrifice Han to save their son. How tragic would it be for Luke (and the audience) if he had to confront his own sister? Especially after what he had gone through to protector her. Or better yet, Rey and Leia have to battle it out at the end.
