This is just a post to vent my frustration on the overly complicated control settings. Why have a change in controls between outside of the docking station and inside. I have set controls more than once only to find they don't work as anticipated.

Hmm... Never come accross this myself, I have my controls set to just one way, havent set the landing controls so it ignores them. Have you tried removing the bindings fo them? I think that will tell the game to only use your main flight config.

You can change them to be the same in the control options. Actually, you can pretty much change everything - it takes a while to know what annoys you specifically and then do a complete refresh.

These are entirely override Controls - and I never used them.

IMHO they're not needed, at least I couldn't come up with any reason why to set them up (?)

They were put there to support people who did not have lots of buttons on their controller/joystick. Since there are some things that you would only use when docking, and other things only in deep space, allowing what is effectively two sets of controls based on different use cases makes lots of sense.

And, of course, if you do not set any 'docking' options, there is nothing to complain about since they never come into play.

The great big plus for lots of people is that you can set the button that you use for 'boost' when flying to something very innocuous (lights on?) when docking so you cannot go splat against the spaceport. Of course, I don;t recommend you doing that, because I like to have a good laugh now and then.

As others have said, just leave the docking override controls disabled until you're comfortable. I've been playing for 6 months since Gamma and never found a need for them. Getting the controls to work exactly right can be a bit of a challenge, but the defaults are more than adequate until you start multi-role stuff, or intense combat.

Once you start to modify stuff, there are some great tips around the forums. If you remap an existingly used key, a warning DOES appear for about 3-5 seconds at the very bottom of the screen, so keep an eye on that and you won't end up unbinding something critical. I once put "next system in hyperjump" onto "T" by accident, and had to fight a couple of pirates near a Nav Beacon without forward targetting. :) Hitting "next target" about 100 times until the ship in front of you gets targetted does NOT make for speedy combat.
