Starpoint Gemini 2 - A rare gem, beside Elite on space games market

And when I'm talking about rare gems, I'm talking more about developer team, their openness, honesty, and activity after they release the game. I had good Frontier support experiences, but with these guys I had the best. Constantly active on forums, talking to people, engaging in community debates, no flaming, no hate, no insults. Amazing place to be.

They are celebrating 1 Year Anniversary of Steam release and after 150000 players here's what they said about this day:

Dear captains,

It's been one year since we released Starpoint Gemini 2 (first on Steam and then on GoG). When we first entered Early Access, we were scared. We knew we gave our best to do a good game, but we didn't know if players will accept it. They did. You did. And today you're not just Starpoint Gemini 2 captains, you are veterans. Thank you for staying with us this whole time, thank you for believing us and in us and thank you for all your support you showed during this last year.

Big thanks to all Beta testers who always make sure we don't release (too) buggy updates and for all their feedback. I won't name all of them here, but they know who they are. ;)
Big thanks to modders who improved this game. Yes improved as in „made it better“. Countless new ships, tweaks, reputation mods even complete conversions are something that really made us happy since that was the main reason why we made the game opened for modding. We had some stumbles with modding tools but we will make them better and easier to use with Starpoint Gemini Warlords.

Ryouchan, Geek, Probe, Tanvaras, FastJack, Klonicus, Liar360, Briaeros, MrHellhound, Zender, Fantredath, SpaceApe, Meepdragon, Longstar, TheRev, Sfcwoc, you are family, thank you for everything!
And, of course, big thanks to our publisher, Iceberg Interactive, for helping us turn our dreams to reality and staying with us for Warlords.

Are we done with positive news? No!

Today we can announce that we will fulfill one more promise – Starpoint Gemini 2: Titans DLC is in production and will be released in November this year! That's our surprise and I hope you will like it.
Also in production is Starpoint Gemini Warlords, and very first in-game shots are to be revealed in the next day or so. As much as SPG1 and SPG2 were products of our desires, Warlords is the product of community and your input! Big thanks for that as well to all of you out there that participated in thousands of suggestion threads throughout entire year!

We are already preparing for Reboot Info Gamer 2015 where you'll be able to see and play Titans along with Xbox One version of the game.

Finally, to celebrate this with you, our friends, gamers and Meepsters, we will give away 10 copies of Starpoint Gemini 2 and 10 copies of Secrets of Aethera DLC along with some other games on our Steam forums.
All Starpoint Gemini games are on big discounts too, so don't miss them if you don't have the game already or you would like to gift it to a friend.
Thank you once again and we are really looking forward to Titans, Warlords and new space adventures with you.

Fly safe, captains, and may the Meep be with you!

I can only say thank you for posting this but sometimes words just can't express the true appreciation one feels :)

It has been one great year, and one I shallnt forget. I Met people that became great friends and some that I claim as my new found brothers and sisters, a family that has grown over this past year.
I am quite excited about that new DLC, and I can also say that I know Warlords will be another great creation from a group of developers that have shown and proved how it can be done!
It warms my heart and makes me happy... Happy 1st anniversary there will be many many more to come :)

PS:I have seen so many game forums on Steam that failed by lack of a good community, SPG2 though has set a new standard on how developers and players can interact in a positive and productive way!
Zeno my brother, can you tell us your thoughts on this and how has it affected you all as developers?

My Best Regards,
Chris[FastJack]Holley

Well, being an Indie developer, and Frontier is Indie too, just on a larger scale then LGM Games, has many, many pros and just a few cons. First of all, we are all gamers in the team and we are all space gamers. As I said on this forums few time before, I started my gaming career on ZX Spectrum back in 1986. and my first game was Elite. That game was a defining point of my life because it showed me not only what gaming is all about and how much fun you can have by sitting in a dark room, but also how many possibilities computers will offer. I play many games, but space games somehow stayed my favorite through all this time. Unfortunately, after Privateer and Freelancer the space games market went scarce and we had to wait for quite some time to get new good games like Evochron Mercenary, X Series and some other. EvE Online is on the market for more than 12 years, but it was MMO, not something everyone will like (I did play it for 8 years). We missed good singleplayer games and that's where Starpoint Gemini came in. First game was a learning experience, nothing more. Bunch of guys trying to make their dreams come true. And they did. First game was not well accepted by critics, but gamers either hated it or worshipped it. It gave LGM enough money to start thinking bigger and make Starpoint Gemini 2.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a success. We have people that wait for Star Citizen but are enjoying the game. We have many Elite: Dangerous Commanders in the community (even in dev team) that are playing and enjoying SPG2. It's a single player experience, it's different from Elite and many other games at the market and more than 130.000 people decided it was worth their time.

As for setting standards, we are just doing what should everyone do - talk to our players, hear them out, respect their ideas and suggestions and use their feedback to improve the game. Frontier does the same thing.
Someone asked me once how did we decide to be so open, honest and friendly to people. We didn't decide anything, it's just us. I'm trying to be honest, open and friendly on this forum, our forum, it's just my way of communicating with people, because I don't know any other way. Our community is the same way. Tanvaras (Commander Archer Mc'Ginty) who you know personally became, just as you, a good, close friend to the whole LGM team. But he's not like that just on our forum. Look at him here. He's member of Fuel Rats, willing to cross half of the galaxy to help a fellow Commander, he's in Mobius, playing with many other likeminded friends. You are either opened and honest as a person or you are not. Being Indie just gives you that opportunity to be yourself while big corporations have so many levels you have to pass to get to the customer that all that friendly, personal approach get losed level by level until it reaches the player.

Frontier, on the other hand, didn't lose that personal touch. I'm in ED since Beta and I know some people had negative experiences with customer support but my personal experience was something I will never forget.

So what's my story? I wanted, I mean really wanted retro 30th Anniversary ‪Limited Edition T-Shirt, but due to payment issues between Frontier store and some European countries I couldn't buy it.
Well, it doesn't matter, I thought, because I'm going to Gamescom 2015 anyway, so I'll just buy it there.
Of course, they didn't had those shirts on Gamescom, so I was dissapointed once again. Nice lady asked me what's my Commander name, wrote it down and said she'll see what she can do about it.

Few days after coming back to Croatia, I was in for a surprise. In my mailbox, my Limited Edition T-shirt was waiting for me! Nicely packed, in my size, free of charge.

I know Elite: Dangerous is a cool game, but its developers are way cooler. That's how customer support should be done.

So, although this is Starpoint Gemini 2 topic, I have to say:
Thank you, Frontier Developments, for being one the best ‪‎gamedev‬ teams in business. Getting bigger, but still caring about your players on a personal level is not easy, but you nailed it. And that's coming from both a gamer and a developer.

Ah... the LGM team. I can't say much about them that already hasn't been said except confirm everything. It's not just the quick responces on the forums... it's the whole relationship they have with their community which, in today's world, is usually VERY harsh and demanding when it comes to gaming. There will always be "that guy" that's nagging and QQing about everything. But the StarpointGemini community is like... immunte to those kind of people.

The game itself is actually very enjoyable - kinda a mix of EVE and the X series - just not hardcore like those 2 titles. SPG2 is well worth the full price, let alone the discount you can get for their anniversary plus a huge free DLC they gave just... you know... because reasons!

All I can do is quote all of the above, Have known the LGM team since day 1 on Early access on Steam and they are a bunch of great people and one hell of an INDIE team. SPG 2 and Elite make my Space gaming addiction the perfect mix.

Espege's story of what FD did for them, shows the dedication to there customers, I remember when they told me about the shirt, and I was so happy they had gotten their shirt and FD sent it as a gift as well. +1 FD that stuff goes miles in PR :)

Same with LGM, As I said I have known them a long time, and over that time, I have had t'shirts, a great poster with LGM sig's on it (Takes pride of place in my games room btw LGM) even some booze - It's little things like the above that make Indie Dev teams some of the best game makers on the planet. AAA Team need to take closer look at how PR, Customer relations etc are done, Cause LGM and FD do it in Spades!

If anyone wonders why do 3 of us have same signatures, actually I've met Archer Mc'Ginty and Jack Blade on our SPG2 forums when they bought the game back in Early Access. So we all bought Elite back in Beta (Archer, even Alpha maybe) and I made signatures for all three of us. :) Although all faces were made in EvE Online, I'm the only one that spent almost 8 years in EvE. :)

And here is our trio:
