Starpoint Gemini 2 [Move to off-topic]

I realize this isn't the place to post it but I want the possible input of people who own this game on Xbox aswell as PC and I doubt many Xbox users will be on the off-topic forum, I just hope some see this.

Starpoint Gemini 2. What is it? Does it play well with a controller? Will I enjoy it if I enjoy Elite? What is it about?

Anyone else from the Xbox forum that have played it yet?

I have it and played it on both pc and xbox. I enjoy it, but its really nothing like Elite. Its a single player tactical capital ship space combat rpg. Its sort of like old school Freelancer. Its basically a space sandbox game where you do a lot of grinding. I said this in the other thread but the ship combat is sorta like the combat in Star Trek Online of you ever played it. You basically fly around in a section of space (not the galaxy) and have random encounters and missions. Theres planets to dock and trade at as well as space stations of different types. Theres crafting and 70+ different types of ships with different types of weapons. You have levels and get skill points that you use to level up your skills with different types of weapons. You can salvage and capture other ships, as well as board them or launch fighters.

If you are are expecting similarities to Elite you probably wont like it. Its actually a few years old and its also an indie. The voice acting isnt that great and neither is the story.

I enjoy the game for the variety of the ships and the 3-D tactical combat, lots of different types of weapons to pew pew with. But its pretty simplistic and doesnt have good instructions.

Its an indie game original made by 4 guys. I actually got into it because I talked to the devs and they answered a lot of questions I had. They are pretty cool and really listen to their community. I bought it mainly to support the devs. On pc theres been a bunch of DLC produced for it. I hope they bring it to xbox as well.

The one big drawback is once you beat the story mode and get all the ships you want, there isnt a lot to do in the game. But its pretty grindy and with the number of ships in the game it'll take you a while to do that.

but its grindy in an ez way. Its not like Elite where you die and get cheesed off. When you die in this the game ends so you have to load a save. Its grindy in the sense that you have to get cash to buy the bigger ships with all the cooler weapons, but the combat is more like you can fight 1 vs 10 and win. Its more tactical than Elite where you do stuff like keep your shields facing the right way or if your left shield goes down you turn your ship and keep the down shield away from the enemy. Its pew pew the other ship blows up in seconds but you have to navigate thru lots of enemies to objectives like destroying a starbase.

I have to say I'm intrigued by this game. Did you play Fusion: Genesis on the Xbox 360? Starpoint Gemini 2 reminds me of that game, only this one is 3D whereas Fusion was played from a top-down view. But the atmosphere is very similar. SG2 is more like and RPG while Elite is a simulator. I love space and sci-fi games so I'm constantly thinking about buying this one too. I just don't know if I'd have the time to put into it. Especially next to Elite. Anyhow, if the game gets a discount I'll probably not hesitate. Seems to be well implemented for controller too.

I can never remember the title of Fusion Genisis(so generic) until someone else mention's it, but I was thinking this game reminded me of it! :D

Hmm.. ok I think I will buy it. Would've loved if there was coop but I read there wasn't.

If you buy it be prepared to read some online guides to really get the full understanding of the game.

Heres pretty decent walk thru for Xbox if you want to see what it looks like.

Ever play Freelancer? Take THAT and turn the graphics up to 11, add a pinch of Eve and a dash of Elite and !BOOM! Starpoint ;) it's a very good game.

I picked it up after watching some videos, but after playing Elite my flying and camera control of this game is pretty atrocious. Once you get a hang of the combat though, it's pretty fun. I like mining and trading, too, so that helps in teaching yourself the mechanics. However, I had to reload a prior save after learning that I had picked up some contraband and didn't jettison it fast enough for the system security and they all turned on me. I'm still learning and probably won't play this one often as I still play Elite and other games more, but I'm just a sucker for space.
