I was thinking the other night how cool it would be if the different starship companies had dealerships throughout the galaxy. You could show up and test drive different ships they sell within the system and it'd be a place you know you could get a certain ship at. Maybe have the starport representative an annoying salesperson or something trying to sell you on the "extended warranty".

However, this could be done. If the ship did not have Frame Shift Drive installed, you could not use the Frame Shift to cruise, but you could get a feel for the maneuverability and speed etc. Maybe charge a fee to allow it to have weapons set on low power, dummy rounds, whatever, and run a simulated combat course with target drones that will register hits, and simulate damage, etc.
