How about our starships requiring servicing from time to time at an authorized station for credits. If you don't then you run the risk of stuff breaking down , imagine engines failing in the middle of a fight, and if you want to sell the ship, you get less money. Could add some interest. Also the larger ones would need to go to specific yards

Nah, we're in the 34th Century. We should have repair drones to cater for that.
