Start ship for backers

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I just wondering about something (after having a particularly nasty - and hilarious - flying incident around a capital ship last night!). Seems a Cobra is quite significantly bigger than a Sidewinder.

For those people who backed the game early on and have enhanced starter ships - do those ships effectively become their "freebie" ships?

For example, if you start with a Cobra, die several times and can't afford the insurance to replace it, do you get given a free Sidewinder or a free Cobra?

It does read like that, doesn't it. Thanks for digging that out.

That probably explains why you can't get an Anaconda as a starter ship. Otherwise, you'd choose that, sell it, and buy whatever you want each time.

I guess it means if you can't afford it then you don't get another Cobra unless you start a new Commander.

Oh, interesting link. Hmm, it looks like anyone with a starter ship will not have the credits to cover insurance and will probably go into debt on their first death - unless they are a very skilled (or risk averse) pilot.

Hardcore! It's fine - I just wanted to know what the deal was. It is "current thinking" at the moment so I guess subject to change too.
