Starter Anaconda build?

Greetings CMDRS's!

Some advice please :)

At the moment I switch between my Asp for exploring, my Vulture and my usual runabout which is a fully A specc'd clipper.

I'm probably sitting on about 200m of assets and I admit the call of the closet thing to a battlestar is very tempting :)

I know it's too early for an even vaguely decent combat build but I'm wondering whether it might be worth selling the Vulture (20m approx?) and buying the Annie in one of the 15% off systems with the view to getting a minimal trading build to slowly build credits up to spec her up.

I know the logical step here I hear you cry is to trade up the Clipper as its worth a fair bit but damn I love that ship I'm not sure I can part with it! I got the clipper in the 29% off CG as well so I'd like to keep her with the low rebuy etc.. I suppose I could strip her and then A spec her again once I make the credits back..

Thoughts?

Enough defence to put off all but the most determined pirates, enough cargo to trade. (That last cargo rack is 1 class lower than it could be since I need it to be perfectly 450T since I have OCD). :p
Buy around Lembava area for 15% discount. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=155377

Or if you feel like it raise the shield to 6A and throw in a discovery scanner for a cargo of 400T exactly :)

My trading build for Mobius/solo play is about 150M at a 10% discount, so I'd say you probably have some room left to hold on to one of the other ships.

452 cargo
A4 shield
D5 powerplant
D7 thrusters
D8 power dist
D5 life suport
D8 sensors
C5 fuel tank
A6 FSD
heat sink launcher
point defence turret
Range unladen: 33.26ly
Range laden: 19.74ly

Maneuverability in this set-up is not bad at all (for a large trading vessel).
Found out I need the shield, because I cannot always avoid hitting the mailslot against repair cost slightly higher than the average profit of 4T extra cargo.
PDT and heat sink are of arguable value, just to be on the safe side, and for me they don't have significant effect on jump range.

EDIT: remarkably similar to Alex's setup except for the boosters and weapons! (Alex's post wasn't there when I started typing)

Thanks some good suggestions there, both definitely look doable!

Is that 4A shield enough then? Don't forget I've not flown anything this big before and I'll probably bounce off that mail slot at least a few times to begin with :)

I've literally noseplanted full speed (not boost) into the station and lost 1 ring. Then again I have a ton of boosters... 4A should be fine for minor scrapes and bumps. I wouldn't go combat without boosters tbh.

4A shields should be enougn, especially with 6 or more shield boosters bringing the total shield strength up to 800+ MJ. Still, be careful when docking. Docking computer optional until you get the hang of it.

I run this:

The 4A shields with the boosters is plenty strong enough for everything except serious* combat. If you get interdicted nothing lasts long against the weapon load out. For multiple small ships you can leave the ship to take care of itself. The C3 beam then C4 sort out any larger ships.

*Serious combat I would define as High RES or CZ. I would seriously suggest a better shield for this! Which needs a better PP... and then things get expensive!

Cool thanks for those suggestions, I think it may be a goer then.

As I was close I just pulled into Lembava (Goldstein) no discounted anaconda's grrrrrr! Will check a few systems to see if there's one in stock at the 15% off before going to collect my Vulture to trade in for it.

Strip all the weapons off and the shield boosters too.

Get an d3 cor d4 shield and a docking computer adn you are sorted for an nice light 'cheap' very long range trade anaconda.

That'd do just fine for solo or mobius but I'd be about 30mil down in insurance or more if I hadn't have got those upgrades since I play open.

Nice one Ben who it all began with, never thought of that.
A full LY more single jump range, that's very nice indeed.

Right I'm now a proud owner of an Anaconda! Bloody hell its bigger than I thought, and I thought it was big! Can just about get out of the station with out scraping the top or bottom but I've been a wuss for the time being and got the docking computer. Watching that thing throw the Conda around is terrifying though :)

I've made sure I have a good few rebuys and money for cargo so I've only got the C rated FSD for the time being. Went for the 4A shield with a few boosters. Time to make some money :)

Thanks for all the advice it's much appreciated!

OK, I just went back to Shinrarta to downgrade my A4 shield on Ben's suggestion.
I decided to drop the Heat Sink Launcher as well, and now I know why I have both a PDT and a HSL: it's so that there is a HUD circle to help navigating through the mailslot.
Make sure you have an automatic weapon on the outer circles of primary and secondary. It really helps centering the Anaconda's nose.

Just enable the mouse widget... it puts a yellow spot on screen center..... no need for PDT or HSL

Actually, you do not need to center the nose horizontally, look at the docking computer, how he is landing. There is a space for both Anaconda and T9 in the mail slot. Or maybe for three Anacondas.
