Starting a new commander & past exploration data

Hey all, with the new release of engineers I've been considering starting all over again and I just wanted to know what happens with my current cmdr's exploration data & first discoveries? Do they get reset aswell or are they permanent?

The first discovereds are kept, but with a new commander name any new finds are with youre new commander name, may i ask why dont u just continue as is. Future content will be rank and rep locked and youll loose a lot of progress, and triple elite might hold future benefits, id encourage you to reconsider

Cool, my new cmdr will have the same name so it's all good.
As for starting again, I just found the game to be way more fun when everything was a challenge and I needed to build work to achieve my goals. I'm not concerned with ranks or with the engineers to be honest and would rather start again and take things a bit more seriously.
