Starting from scratch

I'm returning to elite after a six year gap. It's on my bucket list to play elite in VR so I've just bought myself high-end PC and an HP reverb 2 headset. I played on Xbox before and I have no experience of PC gaming, I don't really know what Steam is for example. Can anybody point me to some information resources to get elite up and running on my new setup? I'm reasonably good with tech but I need to be pointed in the right direction as what to do, I'm sure there must be other threads on here or some good YouTube videos. Thanking you in advance 👍

Having played on XBox, you should be able to make use of Frontier's offer to transfer your console CMDR to PC, with a free copy of the base game on PC included. There's a customer support topic here: https://customersupport.frontier.co...ommander-console-PC-migration-a-how-to-guide-

You can buy the game from:

1) the Frontier store; https://www.frontierstore.net/games/elite-dangerous-cat.html
2) the Epic store: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/elite-dangerous
3) the Steam store: https://store.steampowered.com/app/359320/Elite_Dangerous/

Buying direct from Frontier means that you don't need to first access the relevant games launcher.

The base "Elite Dangerous" package includes the Horizons DLC. The Odyssey DLC is a paid-for extra which requires the base game. You might consider buying the "Elite Dangerous: Commander Premium Edition", which includes the base game and the Odyssey DLC.

Hello Robert thanks for your reply. I have migrated my account across thanks. One of the things I don't understand is do I need to play through steam to access elite in VR or can I just buy the game from frontier and it will work from there? I've seen quite a few videos on tweaking settings etc but I don't seem to be able to find the really basic building blocks. Cheers Ben

If you have migrated your account then that should mean you have now got a free PC version on your Frontierstore account. You should not need to buy anything. Download the installer direct from here (it is an official Frontier repository):


You should now be able to log in using your account details (you used for the migration).

No need to run Steam or Epic (both of which are vendor-type sites / applications / game stores).

I think there are some issues VR wise regarding Odyssey (i.e. no VR on-foot I believe) - others can help you with that (I sold my HMD years ago).
