Starting out + Death mechanics in Elite Dangerous?

Since I'm new , I started reading all news letters, and went over some of the Wiki entries found on the Internet.

A search on the forums also didn't reveal some of the information I'm looking for to understand, so hopefully you, the community, can help me out:

1) How do the death mechanics work in Elite? Respawns, perma-death, insurances etc?

2) Can I own multiple ships?

3) Can components on ships be transferred among ships owned?

Thanks heaps!

Hello Borax, a big hearty welcome to the forums. Ok for your questions.

1) There is insurance / escape pods so you will be able to get your ship back (assuming there are no insurance issues) :) There is also ironman mode as well so when you die........... you loose your toys and start over.

2) I believe you can although the limit is not set yet to my knowledge. I believe it is akin to a garage where you can store your ships or a valet service that will bring your ship or it's equiv to the nearest base. Solid details are not known at this stage.

3) I don't know this one but it would seem logical.

I've only given brief answers to get things started. You will find us a helpful friendly community and I am sure people will post here elucidating these points.

Welcome onboard Commander.

things stand you can own multiple ships and hanger them (for a fee) at participating stations in the galaxy. But there isn't a proposal to have separate storage for other items (modules, cargo, etc.) outside the ship you're currently using. So I am not sure how you would transfer a component from one ship to another.

I think what you could do is player-to-player trade a module to a friendly player while in one ship, hanger that ship and fire up your alternative ship, and ask your friend to p2p trade the module back to you so you can install it in that one. That's a bit of a clumsy work-around requiring a trustworthy friend in multiplayer, but it could work.

I think the answer to 3) is no.

I am not sure that is right, From the Design Discussion Archive forum on multiple ship ownership, second link in my last post

... Fitted equipment will need to be stripped out and stored as cargo for it to be transferred from the old ship to a new one

and then as per the proposal, transferred to the next ship for a small fee ...

Ah, so you can do it by transferring it as cargo - that makes sense. Thanks Luniticisi.
