Newcomer / Intro Starting to trade

Hey,

I've been buzzing around in my Eagle just killing, chillin' and exploring and also working on find a little trade run..... which I think I've found.

I've got around 400k and want to purchase a Hauler but I'm concerned that in doing so it won't really give me much storage to run with. One of the main reasons for the concern is that I can only ever find a 2 slot cargo extension whenever I look in outfitting.

Is this because its the only thing that can fit on my Eagle (despite me already having a 4 slot extender) or am I looking in the wrong stations (bear in mind that I have probably checked 40 or so stations by now).

I'd also like to know how far I can extend the Hauler, assuming of course I can fit (and find) larger than x4's.

Given my low cash balance, is a Hauler the best option at this stage or should I be just doing combat until I can afford something else (all 400k has come from Combat). I'm not sure how to measure i am good at Combat or not but I have not died and am happy taking on Cobras and Pythons?!?!?

Any advice is welcomed.

Regards

It will not show you modules that you cannot fit, so the larger cargo racks may be available, but you cannot see them. Hauling cargo scales up with the volume you can shift, so small ships suffer, you will make much more by bounty hunting at this stage.

Thanks guys.

I have a question. If I already have a 4 slot extension on my Eagle, how come I only ever see other 2 slots in outfitting? Does this simply mean that 6 slots is the max for the Eagle or is it about the power of the module slots (to many uses of slots in this question_.

A 2 slot cargo rack is a size 1 module, a 4 slot is a size 2 module, an 8 slot is a size 3 module and so on, this is the smallest size of slot that the module can fit into.

If you are not seeing said modules then it is due to one of the following:
a) You cannot fit that module so it is automatically filtered out.
b) It is unavailable in this station, look for high tech stations and high populations for better availability.
c) You have missed it on the list, try using the drop down allowing you to change the list order, the default of listing by price is not very useful most of the time.

Hauler with no shields is 22t, Adder with no shields is 26t.

Though more risky, the hauler is cheaper in rebuy if you are interdicted - but I would strongly suggest you learn how to run and escape if you go down this route.

On a good route (or with rares it shouldn't be long until you get enough cash for a Cobra).

Adder (with or without shields) is better all round so you can mix up trade with some RES activity and it's possible to fight off NPC interdictions with one.

Hauler is ONLY trading, Adder is more multi role.

Just fyi, the amount of slots you have in your ship for modules cannot be increased, but the cargo sizes can be (as described by other posters)

Good luck CMDR!

Also when you look for new modules to fit(like a bigger cargo space) pretend to do it from the largest internal slot(in the Eagle it's your size 3 where you proberly have your Shield generator)

You can also get the anserw to how big different modules you can fit onto every kind of ship and the prices, but not the location where to buy it on this very helpful webside : http://www.edshipyard.com/

Best of luck and fly safe Cmdr
