Startup position incorrect

Landed on planet. Deployed scarab. Sent ship into orbit then shut the game down. Next start up I'm back in ship above the planet with empty scarab bay. Can I recover it or do I have a long trek back to get another?

Sounds like you re-started in the base game rather than Horizons - either that or your SRV was destroyed by something.

I ask because I had this on PS4.
The issue was my PS4 account deciding I didn't have Horizons.

Win10 PC and started in Horizons.

Check your log, see what it says .... there may be a clue just before you shut down. Otherwise, if it's a really long trek (I mean thousands of ly), file a request with Support to reinstate it.
