StarVR

It has just occurred to me, and maybe one of you more tech savvy cmdrs would know if this is true, but would eye tracking like you get in FOVE be good for StarVR's 210 fov?

Is that the technology where it renders in high-quality where you're looking, and reduces quality for the remainder of the screen? If so sounds like that would be a perfect fit for this device.

Both StarVR and Tobii (eyetracker hardware) are swedish companies and collaborate closely already.

Oculus and valve have tested large FOV. They have found that with the lenses for the eye's there isn't much benefit at this stage. Plus it adds weight to the HMD. Also they have said, until 16k resolution we will still see the pixels.

Well, for me, I have excellent vision and wide peripheral vision. Long-term impairment of my peripheral vision bothers me. Even motorcycle helmets, which only chop off a few degrees, bug me. I don't know how to describe the feeling, but it just isn't right.

The stuff out on the edges doesn't need to be high-detail, it just needs to be there.

It looks like it will include foveated rendering with eye tracking, which could make this a game changer and also have PC's out now being able to use it.

It would be, the question is when will they actually release, and will all their compromises to reach 210 degrees (weight) make it less impressive by comparison to whatever Oculus and HTC have at that point?

We will just have to wait and see. I know they are trying to make it compatible with SteamVR which is also a good for Elite.
